"…and two shall be born, the whole wide world apart."

"It won't work out Emma…things like that never do!", she turned her face to the other side facing the endless sea stretching in front of her eyes and closed her eyes as if somehow that would stop things from turning into a mess. She knew she couldn't just back down without a real try, things were complicated and Julian had his own perspective about them. He was after all rational and probably never even played a game of pool without calculating the exact angles that the cue ball would hit at. She sighed and opened her eyes to the calm water body.

It had rained earlier that day; the waves were jostling about, crashing into the oddly shaped rocks as if they were furious at the rocks for disturbing their fun. It amused her, how both the rocks and the waves were desperate to alter the other, the rocks wanting to tame the waves and the waves wanted to swallow the rocks with the intensity of their flow. But as the rain disappeared and the sun shined they were comfortable with each other's presence, if anything they were used to each other's presence. The rocks kept the waves from going too far in their impulse and the waves kept the rocks in check, holding them to where they belong; after all they knew how easy was it to lose oneself in the sea, sinking to the bottom where you're just one of the many. They found a way to get through each other; the rocks molded their sharp edges to make way for the waves and the waves passed through the gaps between two rocks adjusting the flow so as to not swallow the rock whole.

"You can't blame me for wanting it to work Julian, not after everything that we've been through together." He just nodded his head. They sat there next to each other on the pavement with their feet dangling as the sun set into the water. "Come on guys…let's go!" their friend Cristina called out. They got up and walked back to the rest of their friends.
