Boys Don't Cry
By Scarlette L' Amour

You sit there on the couch
Sipping your scotch and ice
You turn the T.V. on
And tune me out again

Usagi walked into the apartment that she and Mamoru shared. She had graduated from high school a year ago and had been living with him since. He was finishing medical school at Tokyo U., and she was working full time as a receptionist at an animation studio. She had been so excited when they had finally moved in together. They had spent nights talking and making love. Things were so great, for a while.

Usagi dumped the groceries on the kitchen counter and began to put them away. She looked over to the couch where Mamoru sipped his drink and watched TV. Paradise had gone awry lately. They didn't talk anymore or spend any time together anymore. It didn't help that all her friends had moved away to do bigger and better things. She wished things would change, but in her heart she knew she couldn't try for fear of losing him.

I used to hold your hand
So tight there was no question
But now even when you're near
I've never felt so alone

The noise of the party surrounded Usagi. The smile she had at the beginning of the night was beginning to wear thin, and her good nature was soon becoming exhausted. The feelings that battled inside her were more exhausting than any activity could ever make her. Usagi sat on a couch and watched as he conversed and laughed with a bunch of his friends. It seemed as though the man had not a care in the world, and it made her wonder if Mamoru even cared for her anymore.

Usagi began to reminisce of the early days of their relationship. Those days when holding his hand made her feel safe and wrapped within his arms made her think that no harm could come to her ever. Now, they barely touched each other except for the lovemaking at night. Usagi looked at the crowds of people around her and Mamoru not even six feet away; she had never felt so alone in her life.

If you just stand beside me
I'll keep you in my life
Tell me how much you love me
And I'll be just fine
Don't be…

Moonlight filtered through the open curtains and pooled on the bed shared by Usagi and Mamoru. The fair-haired girl lay awake next to her sleeping beau. Tears glinted in the silvery light that caressed her face.

"Mamo-kun, I love you so much. I miss the times we spent together. The times we could really talk. I don't know what's happened to us. What happened to our glorious future?

"Please promise me this feeling will go away. Tell me you love me and everything will be just fine. Tell me you'll stand with me forever and stay by my side."

More tears began to fall as Mamoru simply turned away from her in his sleep.

afraid of me…

Usagi walks into the apartment and puts her packages on the couch. Nothing has changed. Mamoru still sits on the couch watching T.V., a book in his lap and a glass in his hand. Usagi sighs as she begins to put things away.

Mamoru turns towards her, "Need help, Usako?"

Usagi smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes, "No, everything's fine, Mamo-kun."

So what would you say to me
If you could talk to me
You could ask anything
I wouldn't lie
But you're okay with this
Damaging awkwardness
So I'll just play it safe
And keep it inside

'Cause boys don't cry

Author's Note - I know it's not long, and it's a one shot, but it's the first thing I've finished in a long time.

Disclaimer-This is the important part, right? I don't own Sailor Moon and its respective characters, some company does. The lyrics (Boys Don't Cry) also belong to Plumb.

Thank you all,
