"How can this happen to me Polly? I've never been to Detention before."

Piper stood by her locker, dreading to close it knowing just where she'd be going after this.

"Oh come on! It was bound to happen since you're friends with me." Polly giggled, "I've went like a million times it's no big deal." Polly admitted. Polly had been Piper's best friend for about three years now, out of the two Piper definitely was the goody Two-Shoes.

"What if this messes up my image?" Piper asked, nearly ducking her head as every student begin to leave, nobody should see her staying behind.

"Oh, Jesus Piper. What image? Being the nerd?" Polly grabbed the remaining books from Piper's hand and threw them inside her locker, "toughen up cookie, you gotta do your time." Polly shut the locker door with a tight smile.

"This is completely your fault!" Piper hissed under her breath.

"Again, my bad! But I told you to just skip so you'd be fine, but no! Ms. Nerd just couldn't miss a class period." Polly crossed her arms. Polly loved Piper with every inch of her heart, but sometimes Piper could be a wuss.

"Don't turn this around on me. And now I'm going to miss that thing with Larry." Piper groaned.

"Don't worry, I'll tell him you got busted with hardcore drugs and couldn't make it." Piper smacked Polly on the shoulder causing the smaller brunette to chuckle louder.

"Serious Pol, just tell him I got caught up in family business."

"You know you got that boy wrapped around your finger, he'd believe anything you say... Kinda pathetic." Polly shook her head.

Larry Bloom, Larry writes for the school's paper and is completely heads over heals for Piper. They met freshman year when Piper and Polly had to sneak back into Polly's house one night after going to a college party(completely Polly's idea) and found Larry, because he is also the neighborhood's babysitter.

Babies, animals and you name it, for the right cash Larry would take the deal. He says he wants as much experience with pretty much anything for his memoir. Larry's a pretty sweet, but awkward kinda guy. Their first meeting, sneaking back into Polly's house had been a major struggle considering that Piper was bitten by a dog that belonged to one of the college dudes.

The plan was for Polly and Piper go to the party, then back to Piper's place where her parents hadn't been home. Unlucky for her though, she lost the key to her house.

Polly then suggested the two just go back to her house since her parents weren't there either. At the time Polly had this old dog that belonged to an older relative, which was being taken care of by Larry.

That's where their first conversation happened and since then, Larry was interested in Piper, and vice versa.

"Come on Pi, I'll take you to my second home." Sliding her arm into Piper's, the two ladies head off to detention.

Stopping at the door Piper immediately regretted not skipping with Polly. The room wasn't as empty as Piper would have hoped, there had been five girls sitting separately away from each other, in their own little groups.

"Polly no." Piper turned her back away from the room, she knew those people weren't her kind of crowd.

Piper could try to get along with pretty much any body, but just by body language half the girls in that room didn't enjoy her company.

"One afternoon, just one" Polly stuck up her index finger, "you'll live." And with that Polly gave Piper one last hug before disappearing around a corner.

Piper bit the inside of her cheek as she slowly turned around.

"Ms. Chapman, it would be nice if you'd actually join us." Ms. Fischer smiled politely. She was the Language Arts teacher and was by far one of the nicest out of the rest of the staff, but being nice made her easy to run over.

Piper walked inside the classroom, sat in the front where the others started to talk.

"Woah! Yo' Chapman in here? Ha whatchu' do?" A dark skinned girl named Poussey asked. Yes her name sounds like the genitalia of a woman, apparently it's

french.

But of course, with her comes her best friend Tasha, AKA Taystee. "Girl's finally had enough of the rules huh?" Taystee chuckled alongside Poussey.

Piper only smiles at them, thankful they didn't comment on the fact that she's white, they often did that. Piper turned herself to face front of the room again.

"Okay students, I'll be back. Please, please just stay in this room." Ms. Fischer collected a folder, "and Tasha, no more breaking school's property."

"It was an accident!" Taystee threw up her arms.

Ms. Fischer only rolled her eyes, and the only adult figure left Piper alone with those delinquents.

Piper thought that maybe only Poussey or Taystee would try to talk to her and give up, but she was greeted by something different.

Not even four minutes after Ms. Fischer left did two girls sit close by her.

She knew them all too well from how people spoke of them.

"Hey Laura Ingalls Wilder."

That raspy voice came from the one and only Alex Vause.

Alex was known as that snarky, badass type of girl who you'd see smoking by the school doors just for the hell of it. She's also known as a big dyke along with her little friends too. The type of people Piper tries to avoid.

"We're skipping to the skate park wanna come?"

Piper eyed Alex suspiciously, she and Alex never actually had a conversation before but they had shared this really weird eye contact in the halls sometimes, Piper wasn't sure if she liked it or not.

"Well at least answer before the apocalypse." Alex laughed.

Piper shook out of her thoughts, "and why would I go anywhere with you?" It came out a lot harsher than she intended it to be.

"Ouch." Alex held her hand over her chest. "Well I'm a very fun person to be around, I'll think you'd regret not hanging out with me." A smirk resting on her lips.

"Is that so?" Piper asked back, in a low voice.

"Plus when have you ever been to detention? It's a fucking library in here, boring!" The girl who also sat by Piper, Nicole Nichols(AKA Nicky) scooted her chair even closer to Piper, these girls were practically in her face.

"I like Libraries." Piper replied.

"Of course you do!" Nicky snickered.

"Cut it Nicky." Alex warned, Nicky held up her hands in defense with a smile still on her lips.

"Ms. Fischer won't be back for like another hour, do you really want to stay in here?" Alex wasn't the best at convincing, especially when Piper chose to ignore her.

Alex sat up fully straight.

"You're going to play like that?"

Piper's eyes landed on her desk, praying that this conversation goes away.

"You need to work on your game Vause." Nicky mumbled.

"What did you do anyway? To end up here?" Alex asked, ignoring what Nicky had said.

"Are we supposed to be talking? Could've sworn detention was like a silent timeout thing." Piper pushed back some of her blonde hair, it fell passed her shoulders but she swears one day to cut it.

"Stop avoiding my question, what did you do?" Alex leaned forward.

"What did you do?" Piper asked back.

"Tried to get Mr. Healy high." Alex grinned, "it didn't work out so well."

"What? H-how, Wait why?" Piper had heard of the many, many things Ms. Vause has done around the school. She was one of those students people just can't help but talk about, Piper was also on that list of 'most talked about students' but only because people will ask or pay her to do their work.

"I'm just making most of my school years." Alex shrugged.

"What did you do blondie?" Nicky asked.

"I was late for class."

"Ugh! Boring, I tried to fix that little hole by one of the water fountains and make it to a beautiful vagina but Mr. Caputo didn't appreciate my art." Nicky was one yet another name many people knew, she's filthy rich and rumor goes around that her parents pay the school so that she doesn't fail.

Piper could believe that, she's not a stalker or anything but it's obvious someone like Nicky couldn't just pass with flying colors.

A part from that rumor though, Nicky's one of many class clowns.

"Anyway, Nichols how about you go mess with that freshman over there?" Alex and Nicky spoke with eyes for just a second, Piper could tell since Nicky nodded and stood up to bow.

"It was nice meeting up with you m'lady." Nicky turned her back on the two, sitting right next to a girl with corn row braids.

"Nicky... What a catch." Alex shook her head playfully.

"She's something alright." Piper agreed.

"So what's your name?"

"Piper."

"Piper." Alex repeated, letting her name rest in her memory.

"I'm Alex."

"I know."

"Oh really? Has someone been crushing on me from a distance?" Alex smirked, while wiggling her eyebrows.

Piper blushed.

"Your blushing, must be true."

"N-Not true." Piper couldn't even believe that Alex could even think that, Piper wasn't gay for crying out loud.

"You don't sound so confident."

"I'm straight."

"That's what they all say, only a handful actually mean it."

Piper looked into Alex's beautiful green eyes, in the lighting made the coloring of her eyes just more perfect. The Hazel like ring around her pupil with the green iris trapping them made Piper lost in reality for a second.

"Yo Alex, you gotta meet this freshman!" Nicky hollered from across the room.

Alex sat still for a few more moments, just absorbed into Piper's blue orbs.

She stood up abruptly though, and winked suggestively.

Piper watched her walk away, and her heart feeling just a tad bit confused.

Only thing on her mind was...

Alex Vause.
