It was their seventh year at Hogwarts. The marauders were sitting down by the lake with Lily and her friend Marlene.
"I have an idea" Sirius said "let's play truth or dare".
"Sure" replies Remus.
"Okay I'll start" James said. "Sirius truth or dare?"
"Dare" he said.
James replied "okay I dare you to go and jump in the lake and claim your trying to kiss the giant squid."
"Your kidding me".
James shook his head and which was followed by a lot of laughter from the other four teens. Sirius reluctantly did the dare and the whole school couldn't stop laughing.
The game went on for another couple of hours. A lot of embarrassing secrets were revealed and a lot of embarrassing dares were done too.
"Ok" said Marlene. "Lily truth or dare?"
Lily thought about it and then replied "truth."
Marlene looked deep in thought and then replied "how do you really feel about James?"
Marlene knew the answer. A couple of weeks ago Lily had told Marlene that since she and James had become friends and have been working together on head duties she was starting to get a crush on him. Ever since Marlene had told Sirius and Remus and the three had been trying to get Lily to confess.
Lily thought about it and she then realised that she knew what Marlene was trying to do. She also saw Sirius and Remus trying not to laugh and she knew Marlene had told them.
After about a minute of silence Lily did the only thing she thought was right. She ran.
Lily ran until she reached her dorm room. She could stand the thought of James knowing how she felt.
A few minutes later Marlene came into the room. Lily was lying on her bed staring at the ceiling. Marlene came over and sat on the edge of Lily's bed.
"Why didn't you tell him?" She asked.
"Why did you tell Remus and Sirius?" Lily replied.
"I told them because I knew if they knew, it would be easier to get you to confess to James. They've been in on it for weeks but your too stubborn." Marlene said.
"I have to admit that is a good plan but I'm
Never going to confess. James doesn't fancy me anymore. And I know that for a fact because he acts like he's my brother now" Lily said this and she was crying. She had so many chance to say yes to him and now when she wants to more than ever he doesn't like her any more. "So what happens after I ran?"
"Well Sirius was very disappointed, Remus felt guilty, James and peter were just plain confused and I ran after you, and I know Sirius and Remus followed there down in the common room. I think you should should go talk to them they do feel guilty. Oh and even if James doesn't fancy you anymore I'm deep down his feelings are still there." Marlene gave Lily a hug and she stopped crying.
"Thanks Marls."
Lily and Marlene walked down to the common room to find Remus and Sirius waiting for them. "Hey lils" Remus said.
"Why didn't you tell him. That would have been perfect. You would have said you fancied him, he would have kissed you and then you would have gotten married." Lily just rolled her eyes at Sirius.
"I didn't tell him because he doesn't fancy me anymore."
Both boys burst into laughter for a good 10 minutes. Finally Sirius managed to get out some words.
"Are you kidding me" he said try to stop laughing. "Man Lily you so oblivious. Everyday Remus and I have to stop him from asking you out or telling you that he loves you or just making a complete fool of himself. At night he lies awake talking to us about you. When we found out you like him to we thought the madness would finally end but your just to stubborn."
Lily was silent. She didn't know what to say. James Potter the boy she is finally falling for loves her. Then something terrible happened. Something Lily was not prepared for. James walked into the common room. Lily instantly ran back up to the girls dorm. Marlene followed her and James was standing there so confused.
"Will someone just tell me what's going on" James said puzzled.
"Well mate" Sirius patted him on the shoulder. "If you opened your eye you would have realised by now that Lily fancies you."
James was shocked. Lily finally fancied him. After five years.
Lily hadn't left her dorm for the next day. Marlene had tried so hard to get her out but she refused. James kept calling her but she just wouldn't.
Lily didn't really know why she was hiding. There was no reason to. James liked her and she liked James. But she just had this feeling of embarrassment inside her. For years she had made herself believe she hated James but now she had fallen for him. And she didn't know what she would say to James either.
Finally when Monday came she knew she had to leave her room for classes. When she walked into the great hall for breakfast she saw the marauders and Marlene sitting together they all looked up at her expecting she would sit with them. She didn't. She went and sat down at the end of the table by herself. She made sure there were no empty seats around her so no one could sit with her and then took out a book.
Through the whole day she avoided James like the plague. Marlene, Sirius and Remus all were trying to force Lily to talk to him but she refused. This went on for the next week or two. By now James was starting to get upset. What if Lily never talked to him.
One day finally when James had, had enough he got the help of the others to try and get Lily to talk to him.
When Marlene and Lily were walking into the common room after dinner James was sitting there on a couch by the fire. Lily went to go to the dorms but Marlene blocked her path. She went to go back out the portrait hole but Sirius and Remus had just walked in and wouldn't let her out. James looked up and walked over to Lily.
"You know you can't avoid me forever, not with friends that will force you to talk to me."
Lily stayed silent. She wasn't ready to speak. The othe three had left the room and it was just Lily and James. Lily went to run to that girls stairs but James grabbed her arm before she could.
"Why won't you talk to me."
"I'm embarrassed" she finally said. "For years I have hated you so much. When we finally became friends I realised something. I started to feel empty like I was missing something. Then I suddenly figured out that I missed you asking me out everyday and doing sweet things for me. And then it had been a year and you hadn't asked me out once. I thought you didn't like me anymore. Sirius and Remus have probably told you that I fancy you. But I don't. The truth is that I falling in love with you. But I never told anyone because they would think I'm mad. I'm so embarrassed that after years of hatred towards you I'm finally falling in love with you. I wish I hadn't been so rude to you all those years."
The room was silent. Tears were starting to fall from Lily's eyes.
"Your in love with me" James said. He was shocked. He thought that Lily just liked him. Not that she was in love with him.
Before Lily could answer James leant down and kissed her.
