Disclaimers: All characters belong to their own... wait a minute, there are no real characters as such. Ok, the concept of Pretenders belongs to them as made them...

Warnings: If the first one had no plot, this is below freezing. *Extremely* short short. Continue with the premise that these were bits taken on the fly from the Centre. If it's frustrating and incomplete, well... you live with what you can snitch by the skin of your teeth from high security areas. Likewise, what I said before about Mr. Raines? It's even more likely that he twisted something from this...

01K1999: Pretender Profile Scraps
by Sonnevi
----------------------------

...Most of a person's time is spent on being molded to society's norms, inculcating values, practices and local trivia...

...A danger is that Pretender's might obtain psychosomatic illnesses or diseases if they Pretend too deeply. It is a thing to be avoided, certainly...

....There is another danger of a Pretender becoming charmed by the role, fascinated to an unnatural degree, as from becoming a firefighter fascinated by fire to becoming a pyromaniac. It is something to guard against...

...Very likely successful generals were primitive Pretenders, able to foresee an enemy's moves, though probably with little empathy which we associate with the Pretenders we know...

...Aside from twins, Pretenders are the second most likely class of people to exhibit psychic phenomena, as their manipulation of their brainwaves will be the most deciding factor in duplicating any such feat. We have not yet, unfortunately, located a twin-Pretender sibling pair. Perhaps the next best pair would be non-twin siblings...

...The true challenge will be to give enough "core" to shift at will without trouble, while still allowing our subject to be malleable to any suggestions. Created dependency might be the surest route to acheive this...

Author's notes: This was written at the same time as the first. I post it at the request of SilverEpiphany. Glad you liked the first. Sometimes just a little encouragement does wonders, and I humbly beg apologies to all the wonderful writers that I've not written to. You naturally wouldn't know who you are, but I apologize anyway. Perhaps you'll be lucky and at a particularly low point in your life, you'll get surprise feedback from some slacker like me. Don't lose hope.

Same thanks to TAE, though I definitely didn't send this off for review (too embarrassed). Thanks again to Shelly, who saw this when I first wrote it. Similar intention to polish with even less basis for inspiration, I'm afraid.

Ok, I will think positively -- I will finish the other stories!

Someday. Maybe. :

[Any votes to post incomplete ones? No guarantee they'll ever be finished, though I'll try...]

[...You know there's something wrong with a story when the author's notes are two to three times longer than the actual text... ;)]
