We hide behind our internal masks, too b r o k e n to be seen.
With every GUST OF WIND we shiver, fearful of the costume falling.
It's our masquerade, and we'll do everythingwe can to keep it up.
Secrets, secrets, everyone has something to hide.
S c a r s, s/l/i/t/s, everything else in between.
We're all GROTESQUE if you look h a r d enough.
If you look; if you can see over the WALL,
See t-h-r-o-u-g-h the masquerade.
Ugly skin, so our real faces are n e v e r seen;
Instead we put on our masks.
Hide, hidden; come on out, we're safe for now.
We're SAFE, that is, unless it f a l l s .
Unless the masquerade falls to the ground, exposing every little thing.
It's h a r d to rely on an accessory.
We put our f-a-i-t-h in decoration,
Fixing it up to look as nice as possible.
We tie up loose ends; make sure every wound is c o v e r e d . . .
Because it'd be a shame to see all this be put to WASTE.
But the stars aren't as b/r/i/g/h/t behind the (P)A(P)E(R)-(C)O(L)O(R)E(D) clothing;
And the world isn't in detail as it was before the time of m a s k s .
There's a s-i-l-e-n-t c-l-o-c-k on all of humanity,
Sand in an h*o*u*r*g*l*a*s*s when it comes to here&now.
Masquerades parade around EVERYWHERE,
Taking up time, using up time,
Collecting up that last ounce of r e l i a b i l i t y that mankind still owns.
We're all liars, liars of our P(A)S(T)-
Our p/r/e/s/e/n/t-
Everything on the [inside.]
We can't show who we really are, because we're all afraid.
A-f-r-a-i-d that we won't be accepted; f e a r f u l that we won't be loved.
Our MORALS are thrown out the window
When it comes to protecting our image.
But then again, what about those wounds masquerades can't cover?
Because s|o|m|e|t|i|m|e|s,
The cuts and scrapes aren't only on the inside.
And s*o*m*e*t*i*m*e*s,
The ScArS we have are ones that rake our skin.
And s.o.m.e.t.i.m.e.s, as cliché as it really is,
Our LARGEST wounds can actually be seen,
{touched}
{felt}
{held}
{known}
{shown}
witnessed.
And no masquerade can cover those up.
