You know how nobody thinks about how they're going to die until it comes close to happening? Well, even in that situation I'd been ignorant. I was four, and I had been in bed when a human had come slinking in. Human wasn't really the right word. Her eyes gleamed red-blood red, and her skin was pale and cold. In short, she was beautiful. She was my first glimpse of a vampire.
Her brown hair brushed against my nose as she picked me up. I smelled a sickly sweet smell, like honey. "Sleep, little Jason, and dream forever." Her voice was gentle. Her fangs came out and she got close to my neck. Suddenly, a gray flash ripped her arm and set me on my bed.
I sat up, and looked at the thing that would be powerful enough to hurt this beautiful creature. My short black hair was messed up, and my electric-blue eyes watched the giant dog (I later discovered it was a wolf) that was gray, but it had an orange, green, brown, and white glow around it.
The vampire fled, a lightning bolt in the night. The wolf walked over to me. "Jason, sleep. When you wake, you will be protected always." The powerful voice came out of the wolf's mouth. I think I was mental for a four-year old. I fell asleep anyway, and like the vampire said, I dreamed. But just like the wolf said, I woke.
Now I'm seventeen, going to Drathmore High, and own a blue and black Acura Integra with blue neon. My best friend, Trey Jones, slid forward toward me when I parked in Drathmore's parking lot. His short blonde hair was whipped by the storm's wind. The storm, which had been lasting for almost a week now, drew a Man vs. Wild lover like Trey into a crazy happiness. I was a dream come true to him.
"Sup, Trey." I high-fived him as I got out of the car.
"Not much. I was just texting Amy when I saw you pull in." He has this red-headed girlfriend named Amy Johnson, who worried about everything. Just yesterday she was fretting about Trey walking straight into the storm, even though he said he didn't want to feel the storm's wrath.
I laughed and we headed to reading class. The halls were crowded, as usual, filled with people frantically trying to get to their next class. Why are we so crazy to get to our classrooms? The Pack. They're this group of people who are almost always together. They have a leader, Wolf, and everyone is terrified of her. Even the teachers take a step back when she growls at them.
It may be how her silver-blue eyes bore into yours, or how her stance is casual but deadly if it turned into a fight- which she always wins. One guy died, it was an accident, but since then nobody dares mess with them if they value their face. Even the bully, Jacob Lerman, understands that.
