A Torn Destiny
It was a beautiful time...the last time we were together as friends. At that time we were innocent, our destinies untainted.
"So, Kairi's home is out there somewhere, right?" Sora asked, sitting on a branch.
"Could be. We'll never know by staying here." Riku leaned back against the tree.
"But how far could a raft take us?"
"Who knows? If we have to, we'll think of something else."
"So, suppose you get to another world. What would you do there?" Kairi asked.
"Well, I haven't really thought about it." Riku started. "It's just... I've always wondered why we're here on this island. If there are any other worlds out there, why did we end up on this one? And suppose there are other worlds... Then ours is just a little piece of something much greater. So we could have just as easily ended up somewhere else, right?"
Sora lay down across the branch."I don't know." He shrugged.
"That's why we need to go out there and find out. Just sitting here won't change a thing. It's the same old stuff. So let's go."
"You've been thinking a lot lately, haven't you?" Kairi asked.
"Thanks to you. If you hadn't come here, I probably would've never thought of any of this. Kairi, thanks."
"You're welcome." She beamed.
I wanted an adventure. I guess I got what I wished for, but...it was all because of Kairi. And for that, I still thank her. I'm just glad the three of us were together...at the very end.
Later, Sora, Riku, and Kairi walked back to the house. Then, Riku called out for Sora, tossing him a paopu fruit. "You wanted one, didn't you?"
"A paopu fruit..." Sora stared at the star-shaped fruit.
"If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what. C'mon, I know you want to try it."
Sora was puzzled. "What are you talking-" Riku just laughed, heading back to the house. Sora tossed the fruit away, following his friend.
Who knew that what I told Sora would indeed come true. Our destinies intertwined... At that point I already knew Sora felt something towards Kairi. Maybe that act of giving him the paopu fruit was my apology for things to come.
It was dark, and groups of Shadows appeared. Slowly but with determination, Sora made his way to where Riku was standing. "Where's Kairi? I thought she was with you!"
"The door has opened..."
"What?" Sora was confused.
"The door has opened, Sora! Now we can go to the outside world!"
"What are you talking about? We've gotta find Kairi!"
It didn't matter to him, did it? Going to another world...he always thought of her first.
"Kairi's coming with us! Once we step through, we might not be able to come back. We may never see our parents again. There's no turning back. But this may be our only chance. We can't let fear stop us! I'm not afraid of the darkness!"
Sora shouted for Riku when a black circle of shadow engulfed them both. Riku held out his hand...before disappearing into the dark flames.
That was the last time I saw him...as my true self.
