Your name is John Egbert and you hope that there is someone out there who would listen and understand what you have to say.

This is your life.

One day last spring, your close friend, Dave, stopped going to school. The next day over the loudspeaker, you heard a teacher's voice saying "Boys and girls, I regret to inform you that one of our students has passed on. We will hold a memorial service for Dave Strider during the assembly this Friday." You don't remember much of what happened after that other than your older sister, Jane, came to your middle school and told you to stop crying. After that she took you out for lunch and taught you how to play pinball. Your sister is very pretty and very good at baking. You love her a lot.

At the guidance counselor sessions, they asked you and a couple of other people who actually liked Dave to say a few words. You think they were scared that one of you might commit suicide because they were very tense throughout the whole thing. One of the guidance counselors went through the whole group and finally got to you.

"What do you think, John?"

You thought it was really strange how this person who didn't even know you knew your name. You weren't even wearing a name tag.

Through your tears you said "Dave was my best friend and I don't know why he did it. I'm just really sad and I want to know why." Of course you didn't sound anything like that because you were trying to talk through the gross sobbing sounds you were making.

The counselor suggested that Dave had "problems at home" and felt that he didn't have anyone to talk to. You felt betrayed because Dave could've talked to you! You started to scream and cry even harder. Eventually your sister and to come pick you up from school. Again.

Dave's funeral was strange because his father didn't cry and then he left Dave's mom soon afterward. You wonder what happened in Dave's house and if it really was "problems at home". You really wish you knew, it might have made sad sense.

Your aunt Casey was your favorite person in the universe. She was your mom's sister and she used to give you movies to watch, but your dad said they were too old for you. You said you liked them though, so your dad just let you watch. She also lived with your family for the last few years of her life because something bad happened. No one would tell you what, but when you kept asking, aunt Casey started to cry.

On another note, tomorrow you start high school. You are fucking scared.
