The End is the Begining

The young man of only twenty two felt comfortable and warm as he held her close, watching over her carefully as her near perfect body rose and fell in deep sleep, her head nuzzled against his chest. This was the first time in nearly two days she felt safe enough to sleep, and it was a strange irony that it was in his arms as opposed to the other way around. But that was a different time, a different person, and another life.

He ran his palm over her smooth, naked back causing her to arch a little like a cat purring when pet by its master. He gave a small smile, something that was rare for an individual such as him. He continued to stroke her for a while thinking.

"This should be weird to have done this, but… I know this was for the best and I'm doing this for not just for me but for the human race. This was his job, his destiny to be here, to be her strength her mold of the perfect protector and soldier. "

"But he's dead, and it's my fault. I jumped through time for friendship, for her, for love and it cost me everything, it cost humanity everything."

His thoughts were interrupted by his bed partner turning off him and on to her side. He watched her a minute leaving her to herself.

She was so young no older then eighteen. He had never seen her so youthful or carefree in his entire life. She was different, more then he ever thought possible. She ran from fights, she got scared easily, she laughed and smiled more. She was someone else and that made this easier on him.

"Reese!" She cried in her sleep as if frightened to be alone and away from him for even a second. He immediately went over wrapping his muscular and scared body around hers protectively.

"I'm here Sarah, don't worry I'll always be here" he whispered softly kissing her long raven curls as she settled against him, Driving away the horrible dream she was having.

He moved a hand over Sarah's lower stomach feeling the smooth skin under his palms.

"Will he make the same choices as me? Will he follow his heart and his love to the future only to lose everything?"

He lowered his head into the crook of Sarah's neck closing his eyes at the painful memories of Kyle Reese's death.

"Will he have to come to this painful and desperate measure? Or will Cameron change things like he asked her to, and make sure this never has to happen again?"

Suddenly he felt Sarah turn toward him and place a warm hand over the one covering her abdomen. He lifted his head to see Sarah wide awake with a smile that came from pure love. It made him feel ashamed knowing that that smile shouldn't be for him, but he can't think like that anymore. This was his life now not Kyle's, and she needed him they needed him he thought feeling Sarah's belly one last time.

"Hey?" Sarah asked worried as she moved a hand across the stubble of his jaw. He closed his eyes savoring the contact for a moment as it brought the worries to a halt.

"yeah" he gave a small sad smile.

"Is everything okay, Kyle?" Sarah asked running a hand through his spiked hair. He gave her a gentle kiss and pulled her into an embrace, holding her tight to him.

"I hope so, god, I really hope so." John Connor answered

Out of the many choices and mistakes John Connor has made through the many timelines. The John of this one hopes that his boy will never have to repeat his.
