Hey y'all! I hope you guys like this one; it's my first tribute poem to the Original Series, in the tradition of DeForest Kelley's poem "The Big Bird's Dream." It's also in honor of the new movie coming out on May 8 - I can't wait! Enjoy!

This poem is lovingly dedicated to the cast of the Original Series, especially to the memories of DeForest Kelley and James Doohan. Rest in peace and God bless...

Some forty-three years long ago
When space was all the rage,
Folks dreamed of soaring through the stars,
Of an exploration age.

Armstrong had landed on the moon,
A giant leap for man,
And humans dreamed of aliens,
Of intergalactic lands.

And then one day, a man leapt up,
An idea in his mind,
He hatched a dream, a hope, a scheme,
A vision for mankind.

The future of the earth was clear
In Roddenberry's eyes,
Mankind would reach a time of peace,
Exploring the starry skies.

So taking pen in hand, he wrote
A plan soon to unfurl,
A starship crew's trek through the stars,
A show to change the world.

The critics said, "Forget it, Gene!
Just trash that piece of dreck!"
But folks tuned in each week to watch
The series called Star Trek.

They loved the Starship Enterprise
And her ever-loyal crew,
Characters strong and adventurous,
Loving, bold, and true.

The captain, James Tiberius Kirk,
The heart and soul of command,
Teaching his crew to fight for right,
Unafraid to take a stand.

The stoic Spock was something else
With his pointed Vulcan ears,
Bearing all the wisdom and logic
Beyond our mortal years.

Then came Dr. Bones McCoy,
Irascible and bold,
But a healer's heart beat deep inside,
A heart of purest gold.

Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott
Kept the starship top-of-line,
Devising plans to save the ship
From her enemies in time.

Young Pavel Chekov may have been
The baby of the lot,
But he knew how to fight as security chief
And kick some Klingon butt.

Don't judge Uhura by her looks,
She was no fragile toy.
She fought dirty like the best of them
And held her own with the boys.

Hikaru Sulu flew the ship
With steadiness and grace,
And always took time to crack a joke;
Broad smiles lit up his face.

Three seasons and six movies told
The stories of the crew –
Khan's wrath! Spock's dead! Let's bring him back
And rescue two whales, too!

Let's gather 'round a campfire
And roast marshmelons and sing!
Let's look for God far out in space –
Will we lose everything?

Let's stop an inside conspiracy
Of murder and of war.
Let's save the Federation and make
Klingon peace forevermore.

Kirk and his crew had a marvelous ride,
But all good things can't last.
The creators said, "Their time is up,
It's time for the torch to pass."

A new generation took the torch,
But not one of them forgot
The legacy passed down to them,
What Kirk and Co. had wrought.

Kirk, Spock, and Bones, and all the rest
Will live on forevermore,
Continuing to boldly go
Where no one has gone before.

Whatcha think? I hope you guys liked it, and I hope I did Kirk and the guys proud! Please review and tell me what you think!
