Prologue: Reading is Dangerous
Fifteen years old Iwai Daichi was not the reading type—and there was a good reason for that! It wasn't because he was lazy or uninterested in books. It was just…things happened whenever he read something, anything. The first book he ever read was about a little fairy who wanted to save the flowers from winter, and the result was a five years old Daichi being chased by an overzealous little fairy. At first he found it cute and fun, but after awhile it just bothered it, and he would be scared to go back home lest the fairy was waiting for him, wanting him to save the neighborhood's flowerbeds and gardens before the frost came. The adults began to think that there was something funny with his parents, and Child services was called in. After a hectic month of his parents denying that they are anything but loving towards him, people thought they should ask Daichi why he didn't want to returned home. He had answered, "The fairy scares me." He had been seeing a therapist ever since.
He wasn't crazy. He knew he could read stuff out of the book, but the more he tried to tell people, the more "experts" he had to see. After a while, he decided he would never tell anyone or read anything ever again.
But…surely comic books were okay…right? They weren't like books—as the pictures were already there for him and he had to read dialogue. It was like watching movies—nothing bad came from watching movies. Of course, he didn't read them just to be safe…but he really wanted to read this one…this comic that had taken the world by storm – Naruto, about a loudmouth blond ninja.
But it was too late to worry now—he was at chapter 485 now, and nothing had happened yet. Thank goodness too—he didn't want to feel guilty bringing in bloodthirsty crazy ninjas who could single handed defeat nations into this world.
He went to sleep that night feeling very happy at the revelation he could read comic books! Sleepy but excited, he rattled off all the comic books he will read when he got the chance --- Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, D. Grayman…etc.
When he got up the next morning, Daichi went downstair to find his parents and siblings huddled in from the TV, absorbed in whatever was on.
"Guys?" he said uncertainly, approaching them, "What's so interesting on—" He stopped suddenly, eyes wide as he looked on the television.
A blond teenager with blue eyes and whisker marks on his cheeks, wearing obnoxious orange suit, being chased by a group of policemen.
SHIT SHIT SHIT—and a string of curse words went through his head as he suddenly lightheaded and fainted right on the spot, with the last thought of "I've doomed this world!"
