Event Horizon: In general relativity, an event horizon is a boundary in spacetime, an area surrounding a black hole, inside which events cannot affect an outside observer. Light emitted from inside the horizon can never reach the observer, and anything that passes through the horizon from the observer's side disappears.

The window blinds were up as the figure seemed to slide into the room, so quiet and unnoticed that he could've been a shadow that slipped through the imperceptible space at the bottom of the door and the jams at the edges. His entrance was utterly silent, even to his own super human hearing that put a wolf's senses to shame, and the lock didn't even click as he turned it to make sure his prey couldn't get past him and escape. He'd made that mistake once before, and like a real professional, he'd learned from it and integrated a stop measure so that it wouldn't happen again in the future.

No time to think about past victories now…

His hand barely moved, just raising two fingers ever so slightly, and the blinds slid down slowly, quietly, but not silently enough for this hunter's liking. The hiss of the Venetian blinds as they descended was loud enough to actually draw a frown from him, and when they were finally down, he waited for a few seconds, listening intently to the breathing of the man in the other room. There was no change to indicate surprise, fear, or even any form of alertness to his impending fate. But then again, Sylar hadn't found it likely for him to hear or see him coming. After all, he wasn't expected…

A soft smirk quirked the edges of his mouth, but he suppressed it. Still not the time…

The soft give of the Persian rug made his footsteps as silent as the padded paws of a jungle cat that stalked its prey, and as the intruder moved slowly, deliberately, towards the apartment bedroom, he seemed to take on that very look. Head down, body moving fluidly like water as he made his way to the door, bracing a hand on the last thing that stood in his way to a shiny new power, and he paused.

Uncertainty? No, no, he hadn't felt that in… Well, never… No, this time before the screaming began, it was his favorite part. He very much preferred the silence before he made his presence known, like a cobra coiled in the tall grass right before it reared up and struck at some fool that strayed too close. This was the purpose-filled second, the time that seemed to stretch forever in an instant to him, where everything in his past seemed to line up with what his future held, pinioned in the middle by exactly this moment that he was living, like a giant eclipse that covered time and space, contained inside of him. And it all felt right, it all made sense. It was the only time when he felt no other emotions, anger, annoyance, even elation at victory, it all dropped away for a few seconds, everything becoming clear, as if the veil had been pulled from his eyes, his existence.

Filled with purpose, he pushed the door open, snaking into the room with a litheness that was more dangerous and fear inducing than graceful. The fool was still asleep on his bed, and this time Sylar didn't stop himself from smiling. He'd been in his apartment now for at least two minutes. Not enough time to call the police, but maybe enough to run if he'd been attentive enough. Maybe.

Raising his right hand as he moved around the side of the bed to take in his prey, he considered him for a few more long seconds, staring at the man as if daring him to wake and look eternity in the face as it stood over him. But he slept on, and the smile widened on the hunter's face. His event horizon had lasted longer than he'd expected, and for that treat, he was going to make this quick.
