AN: I´m back at the rare pairs! I knew one day I had to write another Bra/Goku story. The pairing has potential, but what I´ve seen most writers want to explore the highly problematic side of the huge age difference and Bra being barely legal. Which is fine, but not my cup of tea. So, quite differently from the other one I wrote ('Sedated', if interested) this one here will be more light-hearted. And of course eventual smut. There are no warnings and the characters are all well into adulthood.
Have fun!

"…and can we go over the info on the Tolyranians again? I´m not so sure if we should stress the profit they´ll make quite that much."
Bra chuckled softly while she watched her brother fret. "Calm down, Trunks. They´re meeting with us for the profit, they´ll bare to talk about it."
Trunks looked at her worriedly, but finally nodded and switched off his tablet. "I don´t want to mess it up. It´s important."
"You won´t, just like all the other times. We´re doing good." She squeezed his shoulder and he finally leaned forward and hugged her shortly.
"Ok. Good. Don´t stay up too late."
Bra watched her brother exit the room, finally slouching down on her chair and exhaling loudly. When their family had started expanding their business into space, it had seemed like the perfect idea. And in many ways, it was. Bra knew her mother had been delighted with all the tech that finally found its way to Earth easily and with the trademark tech from Capsule Corp, something completely unique in the galaxy so far, they became big players in the grand market immediately. And what was more natural than for her brother and her to get working and promote the shit out of it, forging alliances, looking into assets they could accumulate… And although Bra preferred to stay in the shadows and do the groundwork for her brother´s business meetings, she had to admit that being his emotional anchor was… exhausting. Her brother had no problem expressing his feelings, all of them, very vocally. But for Bra, it was more work to try and understand and soothe and cuddle than it was to spend hours on hours with research. If she was honest… she was seriously contemplating to take a less active role in the company and maybe travel a bit through the galaxy on her own. As much as she loved her brother, she needed some time to herself.
She sat up, grabbed her tablet and walked to her room to go over the specs they had on the Tolyranians again. Better safe than sorry.
The next day, Bra was sitting in one of the open spaced cafés in the space station where the meeting was held. As far as she knew the space stations were neutral ground. They had existed before Freeza, as some kind of travel stop. Some people actually lived on them, though for Bra no artificial daylight would ever be a good enough substitute of the real thing. For a visit though, it wasn´t all that bad. The pancake shaped stations had the energy core in the middle of the structure, surrounded by the quarters. Where it was safest, she figured. Offices followed, this one had an actual university in this area and on the outskirts followed the shopping district, the hangars and the reception. From where she was sitting, she could see the stars through one of the circular windows. It did look… kind of comforting. Everything was clearly worn down, even the table she was sitting at had some scratches and little breaks in the grey plastic material. Though it was all well cared for, the bright pattern of the floors, the functional wall plaiting, everything down to the service robots. Artificial light wasn´t great, but she felt a certain kind of comfort she had never felt on Earth. At home.
"Hey! Bra!"
Bra shot up in her chair, completely taken by surprise. She hadn´t expected to meet anyone here and looked up with irritation who had given her a small heart attack.
"Goku? What… what in the seven hells are you doing here?"
Goku grinned brightly and sat down without an offer. Bra tried to get rid of her frown, but he made it hard.
"Could ask you the same, but then I remembered that Bulma´s all expanding now!"
Bra raised an eyebrow at that but Goku just shot a glance to the side, where a huge ad for Capsule Corp was blinking on one of the walls. Well.
"Anyway, made a stop here, wanted to grab something to eat and thought I know that blue head. I did!"
And did he look proud of it… Bra smiled politely, finally smoothed out her frown. "Yes. Trunks is also here, he´s currently negotiating with a promising business partner."
Goku hummed and nodded and she was sure he had not really an idea what she was talking about. "They should be done in an hour or so, if you want to say hello."
"Sure! So, how´s home? I guess Bulma and Vegeta are doing well?"
"I think so. Haven´t been on Earth in a while." she said, eyeing her cup. "Why haven´t you?"
Goku opened his mouth and closed it again, shifting on his chair a bit. Bra eyed it with interest.
"Didn´t have much reason lately. Thought Goten told you."
Ah. That. Grimacing, Bra took a sip of her coffee before she said: "That´s over for almost a year. Thought you knew."
"Oh. I´m sorry." Goku tried to smile and squeezed her shoulder shortly. "Well, Chichi and I… are over as well."
If she hadn´t been trying so hard to keep her eyes in her head she maybe had squeezed his shoulder as well. It seemed appropriate. She hadn´t expected something like that. His absence could´ve easily been explained by a new and strong sparring partner or that he just forgot time when he had been jumping around the galaxy but not a break up. After a few seconds, she was only able to say one thing: "Why?"
Goten´s parents had always been a perfect couple in her mind. They clearly loved each other and supported each other and didn´t scream at one another as her parents did famously. At least Bra hadn´t been witness to it. She was honestly baffled.
"It just happened. I think Chichi is happier now." That shut it down quickly. The way Goku had deflated in his chair clearly indicated that he wasn´t the one who was happier now. But just as Bra didn´t want to talk about her recent breakup she respected his indirect wish to not say more.
"Hm. Hey, you said you wanted to get something to eat. I know the perfect place here."
That perked him right up. "Got cozy already?"
"I was here a few times." And with that, she grabbed his arm and led him to the best food stall on the station. It was nice to have some company, she realized. She just needed a little diversity in it.
3 months later
A few of the bulkheads of station 771.23 had been re-utilized as viewing spots, with some compartmented cushions and a nearby food stall, perfect to just let your thoughts drift while you can look at the stars… though Bra did use the spots to smoke in peace and watch the coming and going of the ships in the hangar. She wasn´t interested in the big ones, those were heavy transporters, either for cargo or people. No, she wanted to see how the smaller ones performed in the crowded area, get an idea what she should get for herself. Right after the meeting with the Tolyranians, she had told Trunks. He had taken it well, as well as he could. It helped to remind him of his family at home and that he should visit his wife and his three children more often. If a little guilt did the trick… since then she had used the public transports, which were fine, but it lacked the true feeling of freedom. And no way she would ask her mom for one of their ships.
A white ship with red writing caught her eye. It wasn´t pretty, but it was very agile. She looked down to take a note and then she saw him from the corner of her eyes. He hadn´t noticed her yet, it was up to her. But… it had been fun last time, maybe they could grab something to eat again. Lifting her hand, Bra waved to get Goku´s attention. He needed a moment, but when he recognized her he lit up and jogged over to her.
"We run into each other all the time now!" Goku beamed at her and Bra resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "Are you working again?"
Bra shook her head slightly. "Nope, I´m taking some time off. I wanted to do some exploring on my own." She took a last drag from her cigarette and threw the stub away, noticing the disgusted look she got from Goku. "What?"
"That´s bad for your health."
"Thanks dad. So what brings you here?"
He eyed her critically, but kept himself from further commenting. "Nothing really. I´m visiting some friends, see where that takes me."
"Oh, you´re here with someone?" Bra looked around, trying to find out who it could be.
"No." Goku said, with a final tone. Okay…
"Anyway, wanna get something to eat? I mean, if you got time?"
He smiled at her, that smile that seemed to take over his whole body. It was a bit frightening.
"Sure! You know a good food stall here as well?"
"Sure do…"
They spent an hour eating and talking about nothing much. He told her about his travels and she told him about hers, and since they were both doing it without set goals it was feeling rather nice. He didn´t judge her choice, she somehow suspected he understood it perfectly well.
"What´re you gonna do here?" Goku eyed her with a broad smile on his face. "This station is rather boring…"
Bra laughed, taking another sip of her drink. It was like coffee, but not quite. Not as good. "Don´t be mean, you can do a lot of fun stuff here. I was looking for a ship to buy, anyway."
He cocked his head. "What for?"
"Travelling." She shook her head. "What else?"
That quieted him. She let her mind wander, for a few minutes, observing the people strolling past them. It all seemed so peaceful, a little hectic maybe, but content. Sometimes, she had felt like that at home, in Southeast City. But not often. Not like that. It had been a good choice.
"So what are the fun things to do?"
She looked up, surprised. "Ehm… There´s a viewing room on deck two." And a cinema she had planned to go to later, alone. She hadn´t expected him to actually want to stay with her.
"That´s not special!" He pouted and it looked rather adorable.
"Well you haven´t seen it yet!"
His eyes lightened up and she knew that her plans for the evening were cancelled. Eyeing Goku´s bright smile and eagerness to get going she decided that she could still watch the movie the next day. It was fine for this one time.
"Alright, show me."
Sighing, she quickly drank the rest of her almost-coffee and got up. "You gonna buy me dinner when you admit that it´s great."
He raised his eyebrows, indicating that he didn´t think so and put his hand on the small of her back, letting her lead the way. It was incredibly warm and for a moment she felt a shiver run over her spine. She looked down at the arm and he removed it when they started walking. She decided not to comment. He couldn´t know she didn´t like getting touched without permission.
"It´s… this way."
He nodded and they walked in silence.
"Still not that great."
Goku frowned and Bra almost giggled. He looked like a child! Instead, she moved to the side and started spinning. "It´s way more fun in zero gravity!"
"Still only a window…"
She stopped her movement and grabbed to one of the rails between the windows, slowly pushing herself to the edge of the room. "We paid for it, so you better get a look!" He could shut right up, floating in space with a panorama window showing a bright, clear view of the milky way was amazing. He came to a stop next to her, eyebrows still raised. "You know, I´ve seen…"
"I don´t care, Goku. Try to enjoy."
Her hair was floating from her ponytail next to her face and she pushed it down impatiently. The same moment Goku reached out to stroke it back behind her head. Their hands brushed and she almost snapped at him to stop touching her.
"It´s good against wrinkles, right?"
Exasperated, she pushed him and he floated away, laughing. Goten looked so much like him, but he was completely different, she knew that now. Though… he was definitely better company than his damn son.
"Then you should stay a little longer, old fart."
She turned back and watched the myriad of sparkles in the sky, only interrupted by a few ships that passed by. Even that fit right in, somehow. If he couldn´t acknowledge how beautiful it was… his loss.
Twenty minutes later, when they exited, she looked at him expectantly. "Well? What´s the verdict?"
He stared at her, with his intense, black eyes. Bra almost took a step back. "Gotta have to buy you dinner, I guess."
"Oh. So you did like it!"
Goku shrugged, rubbing the back of his head shortly. "The view wasn´t all that bad."
She eyed him suspiciously, before she followed him back to the outer decks.
When they had met the second time, Goku had decided that maybe he could ask her, if they met again by chance. He didn´t know her that well, but his intuition told him she was perfect for his little trip and his intuition hardly ever failed him. Though it was highly unlikely to run into Bra again. After four month of which he spent most of his time with a friend on one of the more hostile planets of the galaxy, he realized that some things were meant to be. Bra was sitting in a café again, smoking again, and reading something on her phone. The planet was a popular traveler´s stop, that´s why Goku visited it. Another acquaintance, someone with familiar enough ki to use for teleportation and a nice chat, and of all people…
"You again." He bowed down into her field of vision and Bra only looked displeased by the intrusion before she recognized him.
"The galaxy is a fucking tiny place, it seems. Or you´re a stalker." Her eyebrow raised almost up into her hairline. She looked so much like Vegeta that way, it was a little irritating.
"We seem to like the same places, I guess. How´s the travelling going?"
She shrugged, stubbing out her cigarette. What a disgusting habit.
"Good. Fine. Better, with my own ship."
She had mentioned that… which made her even more suitable for his plans. He smiled, broadly, and leaned a bit forward on the table. "I still owe you a meal."
She looked as if she wanted to decline but finally she exhaled dramatically and said: "I hope you know a good place here. I just arrived yesterday and didn´t get far in exploring."
"They have the best seafood in the galaxy!" He immediately jumped up from his chair and with an eye roll, Bra followed. They pushed their way through the crowded area around the space port, to the outer edges that were mostly frequented by locals. Bra weaved her way through the people with ease, never bumping into anyone. He had lied to her. Well, a little tweak of the truth, when he had told her the view on that space station had impressed him. He didn´t mind inviting her, and the view had been beautiful. Just not the stars. He exhaled shortly and decided that the little lapse had been enough. Bra was pretty and that was all there was to it. He ignored the annoying voice in his head that told him that Bulma was at least as pretty and he had never bothered to look at her twice. It didn´t matter. He had a mission.
He waited until they were done with their food, waiting for her to voice her approval, which she did of course. It was the best sea food he had ever eaten. He took a deep breath, tried to ignore his heartbeat that had sped up a little and leaned forward in his chair.
"Do you have any plans where to go next?"
She shrugged, not looking at him. "Not really. Why? Do you need a ride?"
"Actually…" He coughed. It would really suck if she said no. "There is one place I wanted to visit and I need a ship for that."
She leaned her head to the said, saying: "Why? Can´t you just teleport?"
"No, it doesn´t work like that. I don´t know where the place is, exactly, and I need to feel someone´s ki for transportation."
She nodded, slightly. "Ok. Fine. Where do you want to go?"
"Vegeta-sei."
Her eyes widened just a fraction. She had a really good poker face.
"I…" She stopped, fumbling for her bag and pulling out her cigarettes. She lit one and took a drag, still obviously confused. "I don´t even know where to start! Why? The planet is destroyed, is it not? And… you have so many friends in the galaxy, why me?" She took another drag. It seemed to calm her down a little. Bulma did the same when she was nervous. Smiling, he looked at his hand rubbing circles on the table before he said: "Maybe it´s weird but I´d like to see the place I come from. I think I… need it. And you have a ship."
"So do billions of other people."
"I don´t know those other people."
"Your other friends?" she said, raising her eyebrows.
"Acquaintances, mostly. They don´t know I´m a saiyan. And those who do… I don´t want to ask them."
She was quiet after that, long enough for him to break it. "Listen, we are both drifting through the galaxy without any goal."
"I don't need a goal!" She stared at him angrily. "And I don´t need you telling me what to do!"
"That´s not what I meant!" he said. "You´re the only one I can ask. Everyone at home… It needs preparation and time and you have that."
"I´m… I´m not sure what dad would say."
Yeah. Vegeta. "I´m not going to tell him. Can´t tell you what to do."
She quickly took another drag before she rubbed out the stump. "I have to think about it."
That wasn't a no. That… was promising.
"Take your time. I won´t leave the planet for a while."
With that, she nodded and stood up. He… could wait. He needed this and a few more days weren´t all that bad.
AN: Alright, another new story! I´m not trying to spread myself too thin, but I need to use the current influx of creativity and work is so stressful at the moment that writing is really relaxing.
Anyway, I actually started this story earlier than 'Baby your time is up' I´m thinking about updating them both alternating. I´ve also got a week off in two weeks and I plan on getting out as much as possible in that time haha. Wish me luck!
My future plans: This story won´t be too long, I plan on around 5 chapters. The other one shouldn´t be too long either, maybe a bit more than this one. I also have a one-shot planned, with a little weirder theme and definitely nsfw, and another shorter multi-chapter. AND of course I want to continue with Make a Difference asap, but I guess I´ll wait till my week off for that, since I struggled quite a bit to get back into the flow.
Either way, stuff is in progress and I hope you stay tuned for it:)
