for mazily's five things list prompt
1. Sometimes at night there is a halfling or a foundling or grandgirl in his dreams, and she is as young as he has ever been old (she never takes another face, and he isn't sure if it's his fault or her blessing, or if it's even enough). Some time after Gallifrey, he promised himself that he would make his way to her. He's still got time to do it, he reckons.
2. Her hair was black, and she was excellent at board games. When he was a small boy, she would take him to an alcove where none would find them and teach him the basics of backgammon and monopoly. When he was a large boy, he was too busy with his studies to bother with her.
3. Though he never called her Fred, there's a pond in the TARDIS with a fish attached to that moniker. He feeds it crackers, and from straw yellow it glows reds and blues in alternate. He'll tease it about outward appearances for a few minutes every night and always say it's beautiful, probably.
4. His particularly favorite holiday is Guy Fawkes, and once he could have told you the exact ingredients for the manufacturing of a great many pretty explosives, but he's lately taken to keeping the sonic in a pocket more easily accessible than previous times instead. The bonfires are nice enough still, and he has a tape deck he likes to carry with him.
5. He used to be a father once, you know.
