Thursday's Wings

Once upon a time you were so strong, loyal, and so sure

Framed in wings of shadows

Your brown armor proof,

Against any weapon mortal or magic

Still strong, yet now unsure

So sympathetic to the mud monkeys so far below you

Uppity and arrogant, they fascinate you so

But you never thought that their defiance, their courage, would infect you

To make you question your orders from above

Weak, clipped, and lost

You turn your back on the plan, thousands of years in the making

Crushed and beaten, you were brought back by divine right

But when you face the Morning Star, out matched and human,

You stand against the apocalypse itself,

And with your first lie on your lips you die

But you will not rest; you will not lie down to die when there is work to be done,

Renewed purpose gives you strength you thought abandoned you

The road to hell and good intentions,

As heaven burns to ash, you understand the phrase

The cause, a Civil war you started in the name of what is right

Yet now with the compromises you made,

Your cause is anything but

To spare a friend, you made a dark deal

To revive a hero, you broke a good man

To restore order, you turn away from your friends

Regretful, guilty, faithless and alone, you steel the last bastions of your courage and take the plunge

You devour the dark power you know you shouldn't and become the divine heretic

With all your hopes, you fall from grace

Your last moments crawling nearer, you reflect on what you've become and what you've done

The good and the bad; the sweet and bitter

A pathetic, weak, pile of guilt and failure; of that you are sure

This is where you belong, with the others,

First fell Gabriel, his first attempt to stand for good

Then Lucifer and Michael, for the greater good

Then, by your hand, your enemy Raphael

And now you join them, Lost Castiel
