My Apologies Ma'am
Alice was sitting in a diner wating for someone; a young man she knew would find her from one of her visions. The man was due to find her here soon, very soon. Alice was excited to meet the subject of her fancy outside of her imagination, she wanted to actually know what he was like, to know how standing in his presence felt, and what he would say to the crazy young woman she was.
The man at the counter again asked her why she was there, and how long she would be staying today. She knew he knew the answer to her question; he asked her everyday. But still she answered that she was waiting for someone and she would stay as long as she felt neccessary today.
She waited sipping at the soda she ordered out of courtesy for staying in the diner and looked at the bubbly concoction unappealingly. Since she had been in her new form all human food and drink contridicted to what her tastebuds now craved. But since she was waiting in a diner for her mystery man she felt obligated to order something.
Alice had a feeling that today would be the day she would meet the young man and today would be the day she started the rest of her life. They would travel together around the world, doing whatever pleased their fancy, and enjoying the company of one another.
After staring at the door for a solid ten minutes Alice turned back to the counter and started rifling through her bag; looking for something to do. She pulled out a book she had started a habit of reading while waiting for the young man from her vision. It was a romance novel and it gave her hope of what her life might be like with the man she had only dreamed about.
"Is this seat taken, ma'am?" A gentleman with a thick southern drawl said behind her. Alice turned around and gasped when she realized who had said it; the man from her vision was standing there. Everything she had imagined he would be.
"No, it's free to take." She replied. "In fact, I would love it if you would sit next to me."
The man oblidged and sat in the chair on her right. He turned to look at her and when he saw what color Alice's eyes were realization filled his.
"This might sound crazy, but I've been expecting you." Alice told the southern gentleman sitting next to her. "My name is Alice." She extended her hand to him.
He took her hand and kissed her fingers, the kiss was feather-light and meant to be a friendly gesture, but it sent shivers up her spine. "I'm honored to have such a lovely, young lady expecting my arrival. My name is Jasper."
"Alice!" The man behind the countered exclaimed. "He finally showed up; the young man you've been waiting for."
Alice smiled at the kind man. "Yes." And she turned back to Jasper. "You've kept me waiting for quite a while."
"My apologies ma'am."
