Chapter 2
The sun was moving to the middle of the sky. It had just moved just the right way, so it shined right into Emma's eyes through the long white curtains covering the long windows in her living room.
The beautiful blond sat up slowly from her spot on the black and white couch and stretched. She looked around her cozy living room and spotted Danielle, one of her best friends who, for the record, had just had her 5th hot date of the week and wouldn't say a single detail about any of them. She had pale, porcelain skin and straight dark brown hair that was currently sprawled over her Ralph Lauren pillow. Danielle had her bow pajamas on. Emma had just bought them for her yesterday for Christmas, not her Christmas present quite, just a "here you go" gift. Emma then absentmindedly started looking for her other best friend, Addison. When she didn't see her, she furrowed her eyebrows and got up slowly to look in the kitchen. Emma could hear unsteady breaths through the closed door. She opened it quietly and stuck her head in before her body. She drowsily stepped toward the cupboard. Addison was sitting with her back against the back wall shelf with her head between her knees and tears stained down her cheeks.
"Addi.." Emma whispered, sympathetically.
All Addison did was open up her arms toward her. Emma walked briskly toward her and dropped to her butt to embrace Addison tightly. They sat there together until Danielle came in, dumbfounded, and sat with them too.
"What happened?" Danielle whispered to anyone who would answer.
When Addison didn't answer, "I don't know," answered Emma. The girls both turned to Addison again.
"Nothing," Addison croaked and lifted her heard. Emma and Danielle both saw the phone cradled in her hand.
"Did someone call?" Emma asked.
"Was it Mason?" Danielle questioned.
Addison nodded. "He called."
"What did he say?" The girls said at the same time.
"Um.. Just that he.. missed me," Addison stuttered.
"Oh, Addi, it was just overnight. You guys can't part for 2 seconds.." Danielle smiled softly. Emma rubbed her back with a straight face.
"I know. Maybe I should go. He's worrying." The three got up and walked to the front door.
"Do you want a ride?" Danielle asked. "I should be getting back too.."
Emma looked at her. "No. Your staying with me," she whined.
"That's alright. It's only two streets over anyway," Addison reasoned.
"Okay. Call us later, honey."
"Yeah, we'll be here."
"See you guys later. Love you," Addison said.
"Love you." The girls at the door said at the same time. They watched Addison until she turned around the block and then they stepped back inside. Emma lead the way back into the living room and sat down on the red chair beside the wood rimmed antique windows. Danielle sat across from her in the other red chair. The two sat there in silence for a while.
Danielle broke it. "So.. Addison.. What.."
Emma sighed. "I don't know."
"But, she was bawling.."
"Look.. I have know idea what's going on.. We will have to ask Addi. Know isn't the time, though. I mean something is obviously wrong. If she wants to tell us.."
"Wait.. We're supposed to be confused.. Right? ..I am.."
"Yes Danie, we are.."
Danielle reached over to Emma and in return got a big hug.
"What if something bad is happening to her.. What if.." Danielle said into Emma's shoulder.
"Shh.. Everything will be ok.."
What they didn't know, though, was what was actually going on..
