Ten short strokes was all it took for the image to be complete. Seventeen year old Lily Evans leaned against the cool glass of the window and stared down at the softly falling snow, the ends of her deep red hair tickling her face. She readjusted her legs so they fit better into the slightly crammed window seat set in the wall of the Gryffindor Common Room, and then focused her attention back on her drawing.
A few more strokes and a chin found its way far beneath the eyes, and then a few strokes later a firm jaw line. Hesitating only for a moment, an untidy mop of hair was added to the picture. Lily's hand was moving fast now, quickly sliding up and down the page adding identity to the previously unidentifiable man. That slight bend in the nose, the kind of nose one had as it if it had been broken (probably form a bludger). Laughter lines, a strong neck, and a careless smile Lily could tell just by glancing at it, that something was wrong and she leaned in sighing and softly shaded the eyes until they seemed to dace in the firelight, laughing yes, but also strong, safe, loyal and …brave.
A slap sounded from across the common room causing heads to snap up. Sirius Black hit his best mate with a Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook, and then threw an amused glance at Lily over his shoulder. Smiling and shaking her head she refocused her attention back on the picture.
It wasn't until a moment later that she realized, the face staring back at her form her sketchbook was none other then the face of James Potter.
