A/N: This was written really really fast. Like, I opened OpenOffice and it poured out.

When the doctor recommended a nose job, Rachel was probably a little more eager about the idea than she should have been.
Whenever someone asked, she spouted the deviated septum excuse and how it would help her voice.
But she had another reason.
She didn't show it, and she certainly didn't talk about it, beyond a casual remark to Quinn about Beth, but Rachel was still heartbroken over her mother.
She tried. She really did. She wanted everything to go well, to have a mother she could talk to, to have a mother she could go to when she needed comfort, to have a mother she could have the 80's movie shopping montage with.
But Shelby hadn't wanted a teenage daughter. She wanted her baby girl back.
Rachel couldn't fill that role.
Rachel knew that the resemblance between Shelby and herself was rather striking, and that their noses were perhaps their most prominent and similar feature.
And she hated it.
She claimed she took pride in her nose. Cited Barbra Streisand as a role model.
But she hated her resemblance to her mother.
Shelby had cut Rachel out of her life.
So Rachel wanted to cut Shelby out of hers. Even if that meant taking the nose she was supposedly proud of with it.
