Leaving her with the questions what really happened to her and who can she trust.*
Chapter One
The light shone painfully into her eyes, temporarily blinding her, her whole body ached with pain, her breathing turned to hyperventilating as her disorientation took over.
There was a faint beeping sound that was getting progressively louder and a mask was tightly strapped across her face, which wasn't helping her rapidly accelerated breathing.
She could hear voices, no doubt talking about her.
The panic and the tightness in her chest rose, she had to get away.
She tried to remember were she was, but she hit a blank wall. Nothing. She had no idea why she was here either. The last thing she could remember was Lissa waving goodbye as she left the bar (A/U - UK drinking age = 18).
Since they starting drinking, they never left each other walk home alone. EVER. So she got a taxi, one that was sat outside the bar. That was the moment her memory went blank.
The panic started to take over, curiosity may have killed the cat, but Rose didn't care as she sat up.
Or attempted to, her whole body hurt, like she had been beaten to a pulp. Plus she seamed to be tied down by various machines and wires, her head swam as she was forced back down by a kind looking nurse.
"Rose rest, your safe. Your in the hospital, you are going to be okay just rest. No one is going to hurt you." Her 'soothing' words just created more questions add them other to the hundreds that she already had and she was very confused.
A blankness swarmed around the edge of her vision, something told her to try and fight it but she struggled to as she fell into unconsciousness, surrounded by yelling voices.
It's just a dream, it's just a dream.
She repeated the mantra over and over again to herself. Although she some how couldn't believe it. It's a memory, it's the past. She told herself as she took all her anger out on slamming down the alarm clock snooze button, hard. Rubbing the sleep out her eyes she told her that she wasn't going to get a good nights sleep again for a while. The reoccurring dream was always the same. It was the only thing she could remember from her whole summer, waking up in the hospital, beaten half to death, with absolutely no memory of how she got there.
"Rose are you up?" Lissa called, banging on her door. Even since she had re-enrolled, albeit a year below, Lissa had be watching her like a half.
It had been a week and a half since she had been released, and it had been a long week and a half. Today was her first day back in class, not that it helped that she knew no one, but they would all know her - the whole world did.
"I'm awake mum." She called rolling her eyes, as she climbed out of bed and pulled a brush through her dark chocolate hair, as it fell in waves around her shoulders. Stumbling into her bathroom she washed her face, careful not to press too hard again the bruise and the cut that was tapped on the side of her head. Brushing her teeth she attempted to part her hair in a way that covered them but it was useless, sighing she headed back into her room as the radio blared to life.
"I'm making pancakes, be in the kitchen in 10!" Lissa yelled, trying the door ones again before giving up and heading back to make the food.
Rose sleepily went through the clothes in her wardrobe and pulled on the first pair of jeans she saw, wincing as the brushed again a particularly large bruise on her leg.
Grabbing a T-shirt with a hiss against her broken ribs, she shoved her feet into her slippers and pulled her robe over the top, before heading into the inevitable onslaught.
"Are you sure your alright this morning?" Mia asked, her hair was pulled into a tight bun and she shoved the pancakes into her mouth. She was dressed for her part-time job, working in a cafe, and apparently she was on the breakfast shift.
Rose nodded as she took the pills from the side and swallowed them with the water on the table, before grabbing an pile of pancakes and the maple syrup.
"I guess Chris is in the shower," she mocked knowing that there was no way Lissa would have made all these, and Christian had been uncharaterisitcally nice since she got back. He was also giving her lots of space - which was a blessing and curse.
"Yeah we have class at 10, want us to walk over with you?" She offered, they all had vowed since she had gone missing, to walk or drive her everywhere until they caught the guys that had beaten her to a pulp, among other things.
"Sure is Sydney up? What is she doing today?" She asked as Lissa passed over the coffee as she sat down eating her own pile of pancakes that was significantly smaller than hers.
"She is already at the library, I swear I love her but she makes us all look like slackers." Mia laughed lighter heartedly.
"You are a slacker." Lissa pointed out as Rose began to withdraw from the conversation.
All she wanted to do was go and curl up in bed, she didn't want to go sit in a lecture on the 'ethics of research methods', sometimes she questioned why she chose psychology.
Lissa was the smart one studying international politics, Mia was studying marketing with Sydney being the smartest one doing a fancy chemistry degree.
Today was the first day all over again, she had been nervous last year but this year was a whole other level. The press had been banned from campus and had at least given her some privacy.
"ROSE…" she blinked back to the present to see Lissa waving her hand to try to grab her attention.
"Sorry I was distracted thinking about class." She muttered softly as she washed up her plate, squeezing past the table, and heading into the hallway to her room.
"We are all leaving in about 15 mins."
She acknowledged with a thumbs up as she relaxed on the other side of the door.
The panic in her chest began to rise, the fear was the same every time she took a step outside.
She had nearly 6 missing months that was just a black mark in her memory, one that was as stubborn as a brick wall.
She could do this. She could handle it. It would be fine. She could get back to normal.
They wouldn't take her life from her.
The mantra ran on a loop through her mind as she shoved her books into her bag, trying to focus on the task ahead.
Forcing a smile onto her face, she shrugged a jacket on to cover the mass of bruises and cuts that littered her arms. Before slinging the bag over her shoulder, pocketing her phone and keys as she met the gang in the hallway.
"Lets get this show on the road." She grinned as she headed out the door, with Lissa and Mia hot on her tail.
