Chapter 1
"Now, Flora," Don Paolo cried in his cold, unforgiving voice, "With your friends all tied up, who's there to save you?" Flora glanced across at the Professor and Luke. Those knots were pretty tight, there was no way they could even begin to untie them. I guess this is it, she thought. Goodbye, Professor, Luke. You were both such good friends to me. Out loud she said "I'll never forget you two, and everything you've done for me. Thank you" The Professor gave her a meaningful nod and said "Flora, I'm sorry, If I could have just-"He was cut of by Don Paolo.
"Enough sissy goodbyes, Layton! It's time to test out my newest invention, my ultimate death ray! Flora's eyes widened. There was no chance she was going to make it. If there is a God, She thought, Please, have mercy. She heard the sound of the Death ray starting up and felt her eyes start the mist over. This is it. She braced herself for the worst and cleared her mind of thought of all the things she would never do. If she died, she would go down with dignity, no screaming or crying, she would face death with and open palm. "Goodbye Flora, We had some good times, didn't we?" Don Paolo laughed evilly "You mean all the times you kidnapped me or held me for ransom? Because I didn't think they were very good, in fact they were some of the worst times in my life." She replied, trying to sound brave, though she was actually scared out of her mind. The Death ray started to emit a strange green glow which made flora feel sick. "Professor, Is there anything we can do?" Luke asked his mentor. If he lost Flora he didn't know what he would do. She meant everything to him. "I'm afraid I can't see a solution, my boy. It appears this may be the end. I am truly sorry." Luke looked at the Professor, His eyes brimming with tears. "Will we meet at the other side, Professor?" Hershel looked down at the small boy, so afraid, yet still acting so brave and sure. He had forgotten how much this child meant to him. He was like the son he never had. "Yes, My boy. Of course we will." He lied.
The Death ray started the countdown until impact. Luke closed his eyes, The Professor wracked his brains for a way out and Flora braced herself for the worst. 5...4... This is it, I guess. I've lived a good life, I shouldn't grumble, she thought. 3...2...1... There was a crash as a figure burst through the large window to the side of the Death ray. With speed to match a lightning strike they ran in front of the death ray, grabbed Flora in their arms and flung themselves and Flora out of the path of Death ray, which then fired at the wall, creating a giant crater in the paintwork. Flora felt her head hit the floor with a bang, but only bothered about it for a few seconds, as she was overly conscious that her saviour was lying on top of her. She could tell that it was a man, as his shoulders we very broad and restricted her view of anything else. He began to come to, groaning, before he realised where he was. Propping himself up on his arms he looked down at Flora, who gasped as soon as she realised who he was. He wore maroon trousers, big black shoes, a white shirt, grey waistcoat, a blue tie and a dark blue blazer. The only thing different from the last time she had seen this elusive gentleman was that the blue cap that used to crown his head no longer sat there, revealing a full head of luscious brown hair. "Clive?" She asked hesitantly. He flashed her his funny lopsided smile and she could feel herself visibly blushing. "It's been a long time, hasn't it?" He grinned.
