A/N: My first GSNK fic for HoriKashi week.
It wasn't often that Kashima invited him to have some fun; she was always so busy with her many admirers. Even on the rare occasion that she did, Hori usually turned her down due to being occupied with schoolwork and backgrounds for Nozaki. Either that, or he simply wasn't in the mood to deal with her shenanigans.
However, when she had asked him if he was game for some stargazing the previous day during rehearsal for the Drama Club's latest production, he accepted without much thought.
And so, Hori found himself at the top of a grassy hill at the park a few blocks down from their school, a blanket and two pairs of binoculars at the ready. He had everything prepared for the night. The only thing missing was Kashima herself.
Luckily for him, it didn't take her very long to arrive.
"Sorry I'm a little late," she apologized, blushing. "I lost track of time while I was walking a girl home."
Hori didn't know why, but he felt slightly annoyed at her excuse. Even so, he made sure to sound indifferent when he said, "Doesn't matter. Are we doing this or not?"
Kashima nodded, and between the two of them, they managed spread out the huge blanket and laid down, watching the sky as the first stars began to appear.
"If you connect those stars, it kind of looks like a cat, don't you think?" Kashima observed, pointing said stars out to him with a finger.
Although he couldn't picture it, he agreed nonetheless.
For some reason, Hori just wasn't enjoying himself. The night was splendid and the stars plentiful, yet he couldn't quite focus on any of it.
Kashima, on the other hand, seemed perfectly content with the way things were. She practically had stars in her eyes. Then again, her whole being was a star.
She was always the star in all of their plays, after all. The lead role was always reserved for her. Anyone else just couldn't begin to compare.
After taking a quick peek at her, Hori shockingly realized that he was far happier looking at her than the actual stars.
She wasn't wearing anything special; her boyish attire was hardly appealing. Her hair was still short and her actions flamboyant and rushed. Still, she shone brighter than any star.
Perhaps Hori had stars in his eyes too. He wouldn't be surprised considering he laid his eyes upon one everyday.
