The Boy Without An Name
"Daddy?" A boy asked watching as the smithers made his collar. "What does it mean daddy?"
"It will protect you my boy, one day you will be king of our people." His father answered. He looked at his father with complete and utter trust.
"What would I need protection against Daddy, you will protect me right?" He asked he was young and not quite to sure about the world yet.
"The Lymen, they kill any of our people and never let us have any time in the world up above." He replied but the young Dorig did not believe him he had heard stories of Lymen and was planning to see if the tales were true just as soon as he grew big enough to do it. He smiled and his little brother came up to him.
"Hi Hay." He said smiling he was only three compared to all of his brother's magnificent five years.
"Hi little brother." He replied smiling. "Look five year olds get proper collars." He said proudly fingering the simple band. "I am five today, five this many." He held up one had delighted. His mother was kind and loving, and although their mothers were diffrent and there were more female children between them they could not be closer. His birthday was fun but that was the beginning of the end for this young Dorig.
He threw himself into his studies of magic and weponry hoping one day to prove himself and on his tenth birthday he swam above ground and changed into the form of a bird.
He saw them below two small children the boy was like him bragging about slaying Dorigs but unlike him he had thought to bring his sword along. He cut at the grass with it telling his sister of his bravery. They saw him and the boy tried to get him to come down into human form it felt like being squeezed like milk and it made Dorig's sick with vertigo but the Lyman still continued to do it. If his people in self preservation turned themselves into wild beast and tore out the throats of the Lyman that was no less horrible than being forced not to shift.
The girl then said the words and the next thing he knew he was down forcing to change it was painful. The girl was afraid now but then a new determination came upon her. They talked and the boy wanted to kill him but the girl interceeded and he thought he was saved. Then the boy saw his collar and he had no choice but to curse the collar, he might die but at least his kiddnapper would suffer. The sword came down but he wasn't completely dead instead he was trapped inside of his own collar. He could see everything but could say nothing only a spirit. After ten years became twenty his spirit was dark as his last act, he was forced into the collar and so the curse became him. He waited watching the world around him delighting at suffering he caused, never to his own people if he could help it but often he couldn't. Finally the joint power of all three races was enough to break the curse and his spirit was able to fly free.
He saw a young man and decided that since he had no body anymore he would put a little of his spirit into each of the young people. So finally he was safe and rested within the bodies of seven young people. Only his goodness remained in these parts and the darkness he let slip away.
