Chapter 1: The Arrival
"Welcome" the hall went silent "to another year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" Albus Dumbledore stated, rising from the head of the staff table at which he was seated. "As usual, I have a few pre term announcements to make. All first years please note that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds to all students, and that Canary Creams, Tonne-tongue toffees and Extendable ears have been added to Mr Filches list of strictly forbidden items, the full list can be viewed outside his office"
A small chatter broke out amongst the students, those newly sorted and those who had returned alike.
"However…" the reverent silence returned as he peered over his half moon spectacles "We are fortunate enough to have two very special students joining us this year."
Two girls pushed the Great hall doors open, one brunette and one blonde.
"These girls, Leah Maree and Courtney Hart are not what they appear, these girls" he paused slightly "are half guardian angels"
"So much for keeping I a secret" Courtney whispered to Leah
"They have both been sorted into Gryffindor house-" Albus said as the girls made their way to the cheering table "so without further adieu, let the feast begin!"
The plates became laden with food and their goblets brimming with pumpkin juice as Leah and Courtney chose two seats opposite Harry, Ron and Hermione.
"Oh! You must think I'm terribly rude for not introducing myself." Hermione started "I'm Hermione Granger, and this is Ron Weasley and Harry Potter"
Leah and Courtney exchanged a quick glance before Ron tried to make some feeble conversation.
"So… what's it like being a Guardian Angel?"
"Half G.A's" Leah corrected, "It's cool. Half G.A's only have one charge to look after…and I'll tell you, one keeps my hands full. I don't know how full G.A's do it"
"Who's your charge?"
Leah bit her lip
"Don't you trust us?"
"No, it's not that. Well, you see…if I knew I'd tell you but the Superiors – Urgh!" Leah groaned sickly.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't think my charge is feeling too good"
"Huh? You know what your charge is feeling?"
"Yep, as well as thinking and doing"
"What are they doing right now?" Ron asked
"Well, he… or she, is trying to eat but doesn't have much of an appetite and is thinking of going to sleep early and trying to think of a way to get out of dinner early without being rude."
Harry's head snapped up to the conversation when Leah revealed his plans to the group. Ron was utterly convinced that Leah and Courtney could read minds.
"Wicked" he replied enviously
"Mmm… well, I think I might call it an early night. I'll see you all tomorrow!"
"Bye!" chanted Ron, Hermione, Courtney, and in a whisper, Harry.
Harry, who had turned back to his plate, was taken aback by Courtney's bluntness.
"Hello?" she waved her hand in front of Harry "what's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"
"Er…um…"
"Yes?"
"Maybe I'll call it an early night too" Harry stammered
"Mate, are you feeling okay?"
"Er yeah, I'm right" he turned and left
"What's wrong with him?" Hermione queried
"Dunno, he was fine on the train…"
