Never Alone—A FuuXFerio one shot fan fiction

Just a warning, this one isn't happy.

A fic about Fuu and Ferio -- The magic knight unable to trust that the Prince can commit.

Or is ferio gone for good?

The Rain pattered off of Fuu's hair, unable to sink any further. She was drenched, soaked past the skin, cold to her very heart. It couldn't be true. How could he be so late? He wouldn't have—

The white veil she wore over her hair was ruined. Her dress was repairable—but the day was not. How long had she stood here, in this ridiculously beautiful dress, alone? How long had she waited for someone who would never come? How long could she remain at the wet arbor?

Why hadn't she listened to Clef when he said she would stand here, alone, until the day she died before he committed to her? Why had she so naively believed he loved her?

'Because he does,' she answered herself. 'He loves me. He saved me. He told me he loved me. He said—he rescued me from Fahren! Where is he!? He doesn't just have cold feet.'

She clung to that thought—He loved her. He told her. He promised her. He answered her with those words. That day… had it only been three years ago?... before she had ever met the rune god Windom, before she'd awoken her own heart, before she killed Zagato, before she murdered Emeraude.

'Emeraude,' she repeated to herself. 'Of course. Emeraude. She was his sister. Maybe… maybe he really was mad…'

Or maybe… Maybe Umi and Hikaru were right. He wasn't coming, not because he didn't love her, but because he had not returned from the Forest that morning.

No. He couldn't be dead. In a blind panic she clutched at her small bag for the orb. The beautiful orb. He said he'd always answer if she used it. Now was the time to use it.

He couldn't be dead.

Lifting the orb in her hands, she screamed. "FERIO! FERIO, ANSWER ME!" There seemed to be an empty spot in her heart where he had been. "FERIO!"

There was no answer. That long, long silence. That longed-for reply didn't come.

'It will never come,' logic told Fuu. 'Hikaru and Umi wouldn't lie to you.'

"Where are you, Ferio? Where are you? I'm calling you, can't you hear?! Answer me. Answer me!" struggling to keep herself calm, her eyes brimmed with tears. "Ferio… please."

Yet again, that long silence.

She fell to her knees on the small stage that had been put there just for the two of them. "Ferio, please."

"Ferio…"

"Please, Ferio, why won't you answer me…?"

"Ferio!"

"Are you all right?"

"FERIO!"

Finally, she dropped her head, sobbing, and her glasses clattered tot the ground. "No… Ferio…"

The next thing she knew, strong arms were lifting her. They were black-clad. She thought of everyone who wore black… there was only… "Lantis-san?"

Silence.

"Eagle-san?"

Her eyes closed. Who could have her? She couldn't pick her head up any further. The person was mumbling.

"..in sickness and in health, until death do you part."

"I do." Fuu answered automatically… Wait. That voice.

They stopped walking. "Does that mean I can kiss the bride?"

"Ferio!" she managed to choke out before suddenly, her lips were covered. She inhaled deeply. So THAT was what Ferio tasted like. Not half bad. He held her tighter in his arms.

"I'm sorry I was so late." He whispered. "Can we count your 'I do' as official?"

"You have to say it, too."

"Then I do."

Fuu blushed. "Then we're married?"

"Then we're married."

Ferio carried her off into the night.

Not my best, by far. But it was stuck in my head--Fuu all dressed up in her wedding gown, the rain pouring, all alone. fuu and her fears. All alone.
