"The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved."

― Mother Teresa

Retouch – "Ivan, I've already told you I love the painting…you don't have to keep revising it. You've captured my beaches perfectly." 'Yes, but it isn't enough…I haven't captured you perfectly.'

Decay – It had been years since the Soviet Union had collapsed, years since Russia had lost his mind and shut himself up in that big house, years since she'd seen him. When she finally did gather the courage to visit her old friend, she was shocked at how old the once grand house looked…and how small he looked in front of the fireplace, still pining for the family who left him.

Calefy – The weather in Seychelles made his heavy coat stick to his skin and his scarf sag around his neck. Everything in her country was warm and hot…completely different from the winter wonderland back at home.

Handkerchief – Instead of sending him knitted scarves for his birthday she would send him hand-made handkerchiefs with the initials I.B on them.

Amiss – Everyone in the room knew something was wrong from the moment they spotted the almighty Russia sitting next to the smaller country Seychelles during a world meeting. The whole world had been tense, prepared to aid the island country in case Russia tried to harm her but they were thoroughly shocked when she conversed quietly with him, laughing every now and then at his awkward jokes.

Enigma - To Ivan, she was always something of an enigma. He gave her no reason to befriend him and yet she was always there. But then again, he always did like a good enigma for he was one himself. Perhaps this friendship wasn't so bad after all.

Camaraderie – Even during and after the fall of the Soviet Union the two of them had developed some sort of camaraderie that only grew into a bond that remained unbroken throughout the years.

Unguent – "I told you to stay out of my little sister's way," he said as he gently rubbed the ointment on the small scratches that Belarus's nails made on Sesel's dark skin.

Disposition – Her disposition was to never judge a book by its cover. "Why Russia? He's more of a monster then any of us!" America would say, but she would simply shake her head and accept Russia's proposal for lunch at his home.

Loneliness – Loneliness was never a choice for these two, it was something they both endured together until they finally realized just how much they truly needed each other.
