A/N: So this will be a set of conversations between characters (right now I'm only doing two) that will add a bit of depth to either the characters or the world. Genres and subjects may vary, but it's basically an elaboration of certain points that weren't really discussed. This story may update a bit weirdly, and it will probably never be finished, but I'll update as long as I have a good idea. This story is written under the assumption that you know the plot and character stories of Xillia 2.

"Ah, hello Rowen. What are you doing out at this time of night?" Gaius walked out of the inn to find Rowen standing outside with a look of deep thought

"I'm just getting a little fresh air to clear my head a little."

"What's on your mind?"

"Oh nothing much, I'm just reflecting upon the past year. I keep thinking about how much Rieze Maxia has changed in that time."

"Indeed. To be quite honest, I doubt that many Elympions even know what was Auj Oule and what was Rashugal."

"Ah yes, to the people of Rieze Maxia, it may seem unusual to be under the same name of a country that they were at odds with not even a decade before."

"It was a necessary change. With no heir to the Rashugal throne, panic would have ensued had I not taken the role of king of Rieze Maxia. In addition, many nobles of Rashugal had been killed as a result Nachtigal's ambitions."

Rowen breathed a heavy sigh. "A bit ironic wouldn't you say? Under normal circumstances, convincing two rival countries to fly under the same banner would not have been so easy a process. However, once the populace heard of a third country attempting to use them as fuel, allying themselves with another country under the same threat, even one they may have not been allied with otherwise, created a sense of camaraderie among the two nations."

"Your words ring true. I cannot think of another circumstance where a king who ordered war against one country to be named king of both, other than conquest of course."

"And I cannot think of a circumstance where a military strategist who devised efficient ways to obliterate opposing armies would then call himself prime minister with an agenda of peace."

"Perhaps all it took for Rieze Maxia to band together was a mutual dislike of a third country."

"Whatever the reason may be, if two countries who were at war can be peacefully integrated as one in the same generation, an alliance between Rieze Maxia and Elympios may not be too far behind."

"We can only hope. I suppose, however, that when you word it like that, it sounds a lot less farfetched than it might have been when the Schism was first destroyed."

"Thank you for this chat, King Gaius, but I believe I should be returning to bed. An old geezer like me must keep his strength up, or he won't be able negotiate peace treaties properly."

"Alright, I will head off the bed also. Oh, but Rowen? The excuse of being an "old geezer" will not be tolerated when referring to paperwork."

Rowen looks crestfallen. "Yes, your Highness. But I'm afraid that working the elderly too hard could have some...nasty consequences."

Gaius merely walks away. "Goodnight Rowen."

A/N: So there we go. Not really funny, but I felt that these were logical things for the two of them to be talking about. Why did no one really mention stuff like that? I don't think I heard I heard anyone really talk about Gaius' sudden dual rulership.
