The sound of the clock above the arch bore into Chad Dylan Cooper's head.
Tick, tick, tick.
Here it comes, he thought to himself.
Tick, tick, tick.
He felt his throat swell up.
Tick, tick, tick.
This couldn't be happening, but it was. The acoustic piano's music started beating out the ivory keys, causing Chad's head to spin.
Tick, tick, tick.
And then she exited the arch. She started the long walk down the satin red aisle, her pure white dress caressing the ground gently.
Tick, tick, tick.
Chad then looked to where Sonny's destination was. There stood some guy who Chad hated. He only met him once, and yet he absolutely despised him.
Tick, tick, tick.
Because he stole his Sonny. His Sonny. The only girl he ever loved – and the only girl he ever would love.
Tick, tick, tick.
She made it to the end of the aisle, where she said her vows to that jerk. As he repeated them, Chad felt his eyes start to sting.
Tick, tick, tick.
"If anyone has any objections to this union, speak now, or forever hold your peace."
Tick, tick, tick.
Chad heard the minister say this, but he couldn't bring himself to stand and break Sonny's dreams. He just couldn't do it. Not to someone he loved.
Tick, tick, tick.
As Sonny and that jerk kissed, Chad's tears ran free. In that moment, he realized his time had run out.
Tick, tick, tick.
