Kurt sat in front of his vanity anxiously. Blaine would be arriving soon, but time couldn't be moving any slower. They would be going on their first date tonight and Kurt wanted everything to go perfect. He combed through his hair for the millionth time when the doorbell rang. He rushed out of his room hoping to reach the door before his dad but to no avail. Blaine was standing inside the doorway talking with Burt. He looked as good as ever; Blaine had his black jacket unbuttoned and was wearing jeans and a plain light blue t-shirt. He turned towards Kurt as he reached the bottom of the stairs. Blaine smiled at Kurt and said, "Hey. Ready to go?"
"Yeah." Kurt stepped apprehensively around Burt and grabbed his jacket. He stopped by the door and turned to face his dad. "Bye."
"Have fun, don't get arrested, and be home by 11:30," Burt said with a faint grin.
Kurt smiled back and shut the door. They walked to Blaine's car and Blaine held open the passenger door for Kurt.
"Such a gentleman," Kurt said with mock surprise.
"What can I say? I was raised well," said Blaine, smirking.
They drove to a small restaurant called Dave's Burgers just outside of Lima and were quickly seated.
"I've never been here," Kurt commented as they took their seats across from each other.
Blain chuckled and replied, "Not many people have. They tend to just pass by because of the beaten-up brickwork outside but this place makes some of the best burgers I've ever had."
"What do you recommend I have, then?"
Blaine scanned his menu for a minute before saying, "Try Dave's Special. It's got a patty cooked to perfection, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles, bacon, and the best secret sauce ever to be in existence."
Kurt giggled at Blaine's increasing enthusiasm as he recited the burger contents.
"Alright, I'll give it a try," Kurt said, a ghost of a smile still on his lips.
Shortly after, a waiter came to take their orders and menus.
"So, how are you liking McKinley so far?" Kurt asked. Blaine had started attending at the beginning of that week and it turned out the two didn't have many classes together. The one they did have together was glee club and Blaine joined only a couple days ago. All in all, they hadn't had much time to talk to each other the past week.
"Um… it's been good. McKinley's a lot different from Dalton… but I suppose I don't have to tell you that…" Blaine said, the last part being said more to himself than Kurt. "It's just weird. I'm so used to glee club being held in high regards but at McKinley…"
"We're all considered losers," Kurt finished.
Blaine laughed at Kurt's bluntness. "That's one way to put it."
As the date progressed, Kurt's worry about perfection subsided. There had been no moments of clumsiness, no stumbling over words, and an overall lack of embarrassing moments in general. Kurt felt on top of the world as he and Blaine headed back to his house. The ride home was comfortably silent with one catching the other stealing a glance at him occasionally. When they reached Kurt's home, Blaine walked Kurt to the door and they stood outside for a while before saying their goodbyes.
"I had a great time tonight, Kurt," Blaine said, a faint smile on his lips.
Kurt couldn't help but grin back. "Me too," he said.
Kurt took the lead this time and leaned in toward Blaine. It was a soft, chaste kiss and Kurt pulled away smirking.
"See you on Monday," Kurt said as he walked inside. He leaned against the door and beamed. Their date had been beyond perfect. He was already planning the many more that were to come.
