Middle of the night
Part 1 of 2
Serena was sat awake in her bed unable to sleep, Jason had told Bernie on her first day back that Serena had forgotten her and about her sleeping with Robbie not in so many words but it was obvious.
Robbie had been a massive, catastrophe mistake. She didn't love him. She loved the women who after 2 months away had left her high and dry after she had practical laid down her heart in the middle of the ward. She had pleated with Bernie not to leave in front of all the doctors, nurses and consultants on AAU that day.
How could she be so ready the day Bernie returns to forgive her and to put all this behind them. Well it was love of course, Serena loves Bernie. She looks over at the clock its "1.58am". she curses under her breath, she is normally a very good sleeper. In bed at 10.30pm asleep by 11pm, up at 7am everyday she's not on nights at the hospital.
Serena's phone buzzes "I know your probably fast asleep but I think we need to talk I need to talk to you about everything please let me know when is a good time to come over and I want to give my heart to you Serena. You are amazing and I need to explain about the army, why I run away and why being myself around people scares me. Please let me explain and if you don't want to know after that I will leave Holby and never come back. B x"
Serena reads the message over and over tears welling up in her eyes she would never ever want Bernie to go away from Holby or her for that matter. Serena types a message back "I'm not asleep at all, how can I be when all I think about is you. You have me in tears again, I only want you to tell me about the things you're comfortable with right now. You can come now or later. Don't ring the doorbell text me, Jason's and he would kill me. S x"
Bernie sat watching her phone on the sofa, she had this feeling it was going to go off any second. Two minutes later the phone started flashing. Bernie quickly picked it up and stared at the message unable to focus enough to actual read, all she could understand on it at that point was you can come over now. She thought to herself if I drive to Serena's it will be easier to read the message sat outside in the car.
Bernie looked over at the time it was 2.24am, she picked up her car keys, the overnight bag she always keeps by the front door and her coat. The ten-minute drive from her house to Serena's was uneventful, no one was around at this time of night. Serena looked at her phone no reply maybe she had scared Bernie off for real being nice to her. Bernie didn't do compliments easily.
Bernie parked up next to Serena's car and looked at the message again, she could read it now and it warmed her heart but she had to explain now or she never would. Bernie texted Serena "I'm sorry I didn't text before I left my place but I could focus on the message. I'm now outside your house. I need to do this now of I never will. Can you let me in? B x"
