A lone figure sits

Still as stone

Silence reigns

The wind whispers prayers

The grass bows it's head

All in mourning

The figure shakes

The silence shatters

Broken by the sobs of a lost mind

The figure falls

Head in hands

Broken beyond repair

A picture rests

Cupped in scarred palms

Smiling face staring up

The sobbing ceases

The tears dry in the heat

Nothing survives

The picture placed

Atop The grave

Damp from being dug hours before

The figure stands

Head bowed in sorrow

Never again to return

"Goodbye old friend" the figure says

Dragging it's feet

Turns away forever

And,ever so quietly, the wind spoke

"Goodbye old friend, remember"

And silence reigned once more

1914-1915

Thousands of lost lives

Foes turned to brothers

In peace they forever sleep

Turks and Anzacs

Side by side

Gallipoli

Forever in our hearts

The fallen Anzac

Lest We Forget
