Mother and I watch as the war rages on outside of our secret place. Fellow Ishvalans are fleeing, the Amestrian army in persuit. People we know are gunned down before us, but we are safe here in our secret place. Many people are escaping, though, because our warriors are holding back the enemy. As soon as I thought this, a great din erupted outside. Many shrieked in fear as they saw something. From their shouts, I could tell it must have been the work of a State Alchemist. One man, our old neighbor, shouted out that there was a great wall blocking their escape! With no where to run, the people, my people, prayed. They were shot until there were none left but us. As the soldiers leave to slaughter their next victims, Mother and I begin to make our escape. But, just as we left our secret place, an Amestrian soldier spies us. He is different from the others. I know right away that he is the State Alchemist that aided in our friend's and family's death. As we brace ourselves for death, he turns and intstead swings at the wall he had made. A gaping hole is created, and he stands next to it and gestures for us to pass. " Flee!" he shouts. " Hurry! Just keep heading east. Tell the other Ishvalans to flee as well! Don't let any soldiers detain you!" And with that, we leave. I take one last look at him and run forward towards the east, towards freedom. I write this now from our new secret place, one filled with other survivors. As I write this, I pray to Ishvala for that mans safety. Thank you.
