I wanted to fly.
I wanted to think happy thoughts and soar above the clouds. But everytime I jump I always land back on the garden floor. I couldn't do it. I felt like a bird without it's wings. I just sat on the floor, buried my face in my legs and cried. I felt alone. I felt scared. I felt abandoned. Then there was this boy. About 18 years old. His clothes were green. His hair curled at the back like a bird's feathers, while his bangs looked like a beak. He knelt down beside me, gently rubbing my shoulder. "Boy" he asked. His voice was soft. "Why are you crying?", "I can't fly." I said in between sobs. "What do you mean? Of course you can fly." I sniffed. "I can't. I try to think happy thoughts but I can't seem to get off the ground." "Maybe you need some help." He took me by the hand and we both stood up. He bent down so our eyes met, then he said, "You need to spread your legs out like this" he helped me spread my legs, almost like I was about to do the splits. "Now wriggle your shoulders like this", he shook my shoulders, I couldn't help but laugh, "Now relax and think about the most happiest thought ever." I closed my eyes and thought about a lot of things. Snuggling close near an open fire on a rainy day, Mother not being rehab. Dad still alive, having friends. I opened my eyes, but the boy wasn't there anymore. I looked around the garden but I couldn't see him. I felt alone again. "Hey!" A voice called out. "Up here dummy!" I looked up and he was levitating above the ground. "How the hell are you doing that?" I asked. He just folded his arms and smirked. "Its easy to fly." " Not for me. I can't fly." I saw sadness in his face. But then his eyes lit up. He floated back down to the ground. Then he reached his hand into his pocket. "I need you to close your eyes." I did. I felt like something was being sprinkled on me. I opened my eyes again. He had a big smile on his face. "Now what?" I asked. "Now we can do this properly. Wriggle your shoulders, spread out your legs and think happy thoughts. The happiest that comes to your mind." And so I did. Then I closed my eyes and thought really hard. Mother and I together, everyone loves me. My world is an utter paradise. No death. No pain. My own forest of flowers. My feet felt weird. I opened my eyes, I saw the boy was holding my hand. His smile was still there. He said nothing but simply pointed down, I looked and I all I saw were clouds. And only a small speck of land below me. "Wow! I can fly!" The boy held my hand tight and we zoomed through the sky. I felt the wind at my face, I saw our shadows flying under us. I could see them on the big cloud we were flying over. I feel weightless. I was almost dizzy from the altitude though it soon went away. I saw the boy, he looked back at me and smiled at me. Then we stopped. We were levitating in midair. Then he slowly let go of my hands. I felt like panicking. " What are you doing? Stop don't--" "Hold on to those happy thoughts. Don't panic." And I tried to but before I knew it, I was plummeting back down I could see the ground coming up closer and closer. "HEEEELP!!" Just when I prepared myself to hit the pavement I felt arms around me and I saw the ground growing smaller again. I turned and it was the boy again. He couldn't help but laughing at the look on my face. "I told you to keep thinking happy thoughts, dummy!" I felt like crying but I held it in. "Okay. Don't let go till I'm ready." He knodded. I thought happy thoughts again. Then slowly I felt the boy's hand go. I opened my eyes and saw that I wasn't falling but floating. I turned to the boy, he was smiling. I smiled back. "This is great!" I exclaimed. The boy took my hand and we started zooming fast. "Where are we going?" "We're going to place where no grownups can bother us!" I saw a bright star coming closer and closer. Then suddenly we were flying over an ocean. And we were headed towards an island. "Hey" he called out to me, "Hold on to me" I wrapped my arms around his neck and I laid on his back, that's when he flew faster and faster until before I could brace for impact, we crash landed in the jungle. I found myself on a bush. The boy was just relaxing on the ground. I don't know what came over me but I started laughing and laughing. The boy started laughing too. "Where are we anyway?" I asked, after we finally stopped laughing. "Neverland" he replied. "Here we can play and no grownups can bother us. "And if I may ask what's your name?" He turned to me and said with a smile, "I'm Peter Pan."
