Just Desert

She lowered the knife and it grew even brighter. Betty was getting scared being left alone at her house while her two kids were off at her dad's house. They were just recently divorced. She was just carving her pumpkins the day before Halloween. It was getting late and she was getting tired. She had noticed that every time she lowered the knife towards the biggest pumpkin to start carving, the pumpkin began to glow. She thought she would just wait until tomorrow for the kids and her husband to come home to help carve all the pumpkins. She had a total of ten pumpkins to carve and was getting too tired to carve the third and the kids would want to make their own designs anyway. She goes up the houses three flights of stairs to the top bedroom and went to bed.

In the morning her alarm rings and she wakes up at eight o'clock. She has just enough time before ten to brush her teeth, take a shower, get dressed, and eat her breakfast. She hopes the children are fed when they come home.
