Such a lousy day in the summer.
Its even worse, when your a lifeguard.
Clyde Donovan stared over the abandoned kiddy pool. Searching for action-for something to happen while he was on his shift. Today was a slow day. Grey clouds decorated the blue sky, the news said it was to rain today. And by the looks of it- it was going to start soon.
And while anyone with common sense would start to close up there pool by now, his boss told him to keep it open. Just for awhile longer. So there he sat. On the high lifegaurd tower. Looking over the empty pool area, staring at the clouds in the sky, inching closer and closer to his town.
This was ridiculous, no one was going to come.
Slowly, Clyde started to pick himself up, getting ready to climb down the ladder on the tower when a short boy started to push the front gate of the pool entrance open.
Sitting back down, he pushed his sunglasses closer to his face. He rested his chin in the palm of his hand, watching the boy take off his orange hoodie. He watched as he threw it carelessly on the concrete floor, lying in one of the beach chairs. The boy was short, blond and toned. His blue eyes began to ease close. Clyde assumed he had come just to tan. Why? He hadn't an idea. It was getting ready to rain. But the boy wasn't wearing a shirt, wasn't jumping in the pool, so he had to have come to tan.
The boy though- looked oddly familiar. He looked around the same age, so he could possibly go to his school. Clyde knew he shouldn't, knew he should stay in his little tower and watch over the none existent swimmers in the abandoned pool. But the boy was alluring. He was being pulled in by his familiarity and well, beauty. He searched for a name. Any name- Keith? Kevin? Kenny?
There it was.
Kenny. Kenny-whatshisface. The kid hes been in the same class with since the sixth grade. How could he not know him?
I guess things just changed after middle school, everyone just went separate ways. Kenny and Clyde weren't good friends to start with. But here they were. Clyde watching Kenny in interest and mild infatuation, while Kenny lay unaware of the brunette boy staring down at him.
He knew he should keep to himself. Maybe approach the boy in school, not at his job. But Clyde wasn't smart. He reached his hand in his box of vanilla wafers, throwing one at the blond boy. It hit said boy smack between the eyes. The set of said blue eyes snapped open as the boy picked himself up, looking around for the person that threw the offending vanilla wafer at his forehead.
Finally his eyes found the lifegaurd post, he stared up at Clyde, Clyde stared down at him. And they glared at eachother.
"What the hell did you do that for?!" The blond yelled, sending a nasty look at Clyde.
Clyde grinned, crossing his arms.
"I'unno."
At that moment, they felt a certain connection. Kenny tilted his head to the side, he rolled his eyes but a smirk started to form on his face. Clyde laughed, reaching into his box again, and nibbling on another vanilla wafer. After taking a bite, he lifts it up in the air, some kind of toast. Kenny raises an eyebow, but takes his wafer and lifts it as well.
"So whats your name, lifeguard boy?"
"Its Clyde."
A pause. Kenny laughs.
"Its nice to meet you, Clyde."
Clyde laughs as well. It was dead fucking obvious Kenny knew who he was. But he played along with this. They hadn't talked in years. This was like a start over of some sort.
"Its nice to meet you to... uhm, whats your name?"
"My name shall be Kenny."
They smile at eachother.
"Kenny, I think we're going to be friends."
