No one knew how it started, it happened so fast.
One day every factory, every city, every citizen, a gleaming example of Imperial Faith and then the next, fully half had openly declared independence and spouting profanities against His Holy Name.
The Industrial World of Mekuk was the heart of the Mekuk sector. It churned out materials for the sector's Guard units. The production never ceases crates of lasguns, lascannons and other munitions are stacked metres high outside of his factorium. The world's two spaceports are a constant buzz of cargo haulers landings, being loaded and taking off again. Outside of the factorium cities lies miles of open space, most of it used for testing of weapons and training of Guard and PDF units. When the cities rebelled, thousands of men of the PDF turned with the populace, hundreds of Imperial officials were killed before the authorities noticed. Visiting guard regiments were ambushed and the might of the Adeptus Arbites were pushed to the limit.
At the rising of the sun on the fourth day the advisors to the Governor finally convinced him to send for help. Those PDF who remained loyal were now dug in around the last five factorium cities that espouse loyalties to the Imperium. Around 2,000 Imperial Guard from various Regiments also lent support to the defense of Mekuk, not that they had much choice. The fighting was brutal, the rebels had access to all the equipment produced on the planet and what they lacked in training they made up for in ferocity and numbers.
Imperial response was slow at first but within a week an Imperial force of 12 Guard Regiments were on their way to support the defenders of the stricken planet. The troopships, looking like bloated beetles, hung in silence around the planet. Smaller ships were coming from the ships, looking like flies escaping a corpse. They were bringing the Emperor's retribution to the heretics.
The reclamation of Mekuk was underway.
