It was around one in the morning, Washu was growing bags under her eyes. This was the fourth sleepless night she had spent working. She had discovered, through a split second, a new color in the spectrum, and was trying desperately to find it again. The felt she was finally getting close. The color was produced in a contained thermo-nuclear reaction. Just one more night and she should have it.
"Hm.. If my calculations are correct…" she spoke blankly. She tinkered with a few wires, rearranged a few atoms and molecules, and poured in more elements. She was so close.
"Umm…Hello?" said a bubbly voice from down the hall, it sounded confused. Washu froze in place, her eyes widening across her face. "Ms. Washu? I got up to get some milk and I got lost" said Mihoshi. Washu slowly turned her head sideways to look at the blond blue eyed demon of accidental destruction. She suddenly exploded in a fit a rage.
"Get out of here! You can't be here! Get out NOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW! " she screamed. Her yells confused Mihoshi and in her attempt to escape Washu's wrath and get out of the lab, she tripped on a wire and accidentally hit a series of flashing lights on her way down. Washu stared at it in disbelief. All she could do was scream.
"MIHOSHI YOU IDIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.
The news that Japan had suddenly blown up reached the world fast. No one could tell what happened. There was no sign of missile activity. The world mourned the loss of the country, but life went on.
It didn't hit me how depressing this story could be until just after I finished typing it. It made me giggle though because I'm positive that that's what Washu's last words will definitely be.
