Sometimes waking up and facing the day was especially difficult to Todoroki Shouto. And that day promised to be one of that difficult days, especially thanks to his dad and his traumas from the past that kept surrounding his dreams over the night.
Yeah, sometimes he had the feeling that he wouldn't ever be free of everything that happened in his life.
"Good morning, Todoroki-san!" Yaoyorozu's voice was the first thing the boy heard as he descended to the first floor of the dormitory.
She smiled at him, looking too joyful for someone who had woken up earlier than necessary. They still had a long time for their first class after all.
"Morning" He answered, still a little sleepy and slightly annoyed for waking up thanks to a nightmare.
When would his father stop frightening his dreams? Ah, thinking about that would surely leave him in an even worse mood.
"Where is everybody?"
"Probably still sleeping" Yaoyorozu grinned "Midoriya-san must be the only one awake besides us, I saw him leaving to run as soon as I got here"
"Hm" Todoroki murmured, yawning lazily.
Yaoyorozu handed him a cup of coffee, holding another in her hands and bringing it to her lips.
"Thanks" he took the cup, drinking too. The coffee was strong and at the time was the ideal to wake him. "I thought you liked tea more"
He remarked, realizing that he'd never seen the girl drink coffee before. Though they rarely ate breakfast together anyway, since Momo used to wake up earlier than he did.
"Oh, but I prefer tea!" she replied, a little surprise "but you know, sometimes a bit of caffeine is necessary to keep you awake during the day"
Todoroki nodded and silently sat down in front of her on the table, drinking again from his cup, too deep in his thoughts to say anything else, but somehow already feeling better just to be there with the girl.
"Hm… Todoroki-san?" Yaoyorozu called him after noticing that he had just drank and was about to get up. Seeing that she had the attention of the boy who now looked at her, she shyly continued "I hope all is well with you. I know you usually don't wake up this early, and something probably must have happened but… I hope you get well!"
She spoke quickly and, as she finished, she looked away from him, feeling her face warm and wondering how much she'd been meddling with her comment.
She should probably apologize… Yes, after all, it was none of her business…
"Ah, I'm so-"
"Thank you, Yaoyorozu" Todoroki interrupted her, standing up.
The tone in his voice did not indicate that he was upset and that made Yaoyorozu finally look up at him.
Shouto wasn't looking at her, but he had a short, almost imperceptible smile on his lips as he walked into the kitchen.
And the annoyance he'd felt when he woke up was all gone by now.
