" Why are you always carrying that stick in your pocket?"
Chris whirled around and stared at Allie in horror. They would not let this one slide he thought. A muggle seeing his wand! How could he be so stupid!
She stared at him. Luckily mistaking his shock for embarrassment and spoke "I mean there is nothing wrong with it, it looks very, well, wooden?" Allie said with a positive spin. " Can I see it, you know I had a keychain I carried around for months! Although, it was on my car keys." She reached for it, Chris leapt from his chair in one swift motion. Looking down at her, as if she had just reached for his privates.
Barely audible Chris mumbled. " Sorry! I, I can't let you see it." He looked around the hall, at his year 11 peers, then up and out through the transparent roof and into the bright blue air. Imagining the crisp atmosphere he started walking, and kept going until he was at the door. Looking back he saw Allie. Completely bemused she yelled, "your such a freak Chris Stevkovska!" she smiled. Chris knew right then that she was the only girl who would still be smiling after a fit like that. He smiled back, and kept walking straight out the door.
That night Chris sat on his bed and thought about her. Tomorrow I will kiss her. I won't say a word or make a gesture, Just kiss. He laughed aloud, knowing that he would never go through with it. Besides, she was a muggle. Tomorrow was his 17th birthday and not long from now he would be going around the world, learning what he could from other wizards and witches. No place for a muggle, he thought. He put his head on his pillow and slowly drifted off to sleep. Clutching his wand he thought about a future he could never have.
