"Mr. Potter? Would you be so kind to remind us what the incantation for the Protean Charm is?"
James looked up. "Er.." He searched the paper. Add a half twist as you begin the incantation, "Lily and James Potter," he said. The class burst put laughing as he realized what he had just said. Only two people were not amused: Flitwick and Lily.
"I hope you will pay attention in future classes, James. Serve a half-hour detention tomorrow night, please," squeaked the tiny Professor.
As soon as his back was turned, Lily rounded on James. "Potter! What the bloody fuck are you doing?! I prefer my evil sister to you! You think I'd ever- ever consider marrying you?"
"Yup," answered James.
Lily apparently thought his response too horrible for words, so instead turned away with a huff.
James crumpled up his useless Charms/love notes and threw them on the floor. As soon as the bell rang, he stormed out and saw Lily glaring at him.
What he didn't see was her picking up his notes. He didn't see her reading them, or looking back up at him with a flattered and caring expression on her face, because if he did, he surely would've kissed her already.
