We all know Harry James Potter as a geek with glasses whose parent's have been killed by Lord Voldemort.

We also know that Harry claims the Dursleys made his life miserable.

But what if they had been tender and nurturing? Would Harry have really been Harry? Or would he have been like Dudley?

This is the story of what would have happened if the Dursleys had treated Harry like family.

Harry woke up in his bedroom on the morning of his fifth birthday. His aunt, uncle, and cousin were all still asleep. Harry got up and snuck downstairs to try and see what he was receiving for his birthday.

From what he could tell by the package shapes, he was about to acquire a bicycle, a computer, several DVDs, and a television for his bedroom. There were many other presents, but those were the only ones that he could figure out what they were.

Harry didn't really enjoy his life, though his life was fabulous. He was never hungry, he wasn't bored, and he had a loving family.

But there was something missing.

Harry laughed as Malfoy cracked joke after joke making fun of the red-haired Weasleys.

It was Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts. He was a Slytherin, and proud of it. None of his battles with Voldemort had ever hap-pened. He was never a Triwizard champion. None of that had ever happened.

Suddenly the compartment door burst open and a frizzy brown-haired girl that Harry knew as Hermione Granger stood in the doorway, next to a pretty red-haired girl and a tall, gangly boy by the names of Ginny and Ron Weasley.

"Is there something going on in here? A first-year came to me and said there were two boys insulting his family in this compartment." said Hermione.

"Granger, now why would we be insulting that first-year's family when there's a mudblood running around the place?" Malfoy replied.

"Don't talk to her like that!" Ron exclaimed.
"And what exactly are you going to do about it, Weasley?" Harry said, standing up.

"Oh, Potter, what are you going to do to us? You have absolutely no magical talent, so I would advise you to shut up and let your friend fight his own battles." Ginny said.

And on that final note the three strut out of the compartment.

This is exactly why the Dursleys were so kind to be mean to Harry.
