AUTHOR'S NOTE: One just wasn't enough . . . this is the companion piece to "All of the Above." I'm not intending to make these drabbles a series, though—three's a crowd, right? : )

Kathryn is dying. I know it. Condemning time continues on this isolated ship; and every day I feel passion and vibrancy slip further from my grasp, replaced by grimness and automatic determination. Kathryn is dying, and the Captain is killing her.

And you know it, too. You want to stop it. You want to be my first officer, advisor, confidante, and friend, my shoulder to lean on. You gaze with longing upon the blanks of Kathryn's waning life whose answers are stolen, blanks the Captain has left empty.

But you know that I can't let you fill in the blanks.
