Song is "Love Song For a Vampire" by Annie Lennox.

~

/Come into these arms again

And lay your body down

The rhythm of this trembling heart

Is beating like a drum/

Trowa Barton leaned into the frigid wind, the combination of swirling snow and his bangs nearly obscuring his vision. He thrust his hands deeper into the pockets of his overcoat and trudged stoically on. It was a bitterly cold evening and the street was all but deserted.

/It beats for you, it bleeds for you

It knows not how it sounds

For it is the drum of drums

It is the song of songs/

The sun was sinking slowly in the sky, casting its bleak beams more and more faintly. A new gust of wind slammed against Trowa's thin body, making him catch his breath raggedly in his throat. He raised his stinging eyes to the street sign he was approaching, struggling to make out the letters in the torrid snow. His numb fingers fumbled for the scrap of paper in his coat pocket, glancing at it and back up at the street sign. He bit his chapped lower lip, the metallic taste of blood in his mouth.

/Once I had the rarest rose

That ever deigned to bloom

Cruel winter chilled the bud

And stole my flower too soon

Oh loneliness, oh hopelessness

To search the ends of time

For there is in all the world

No greater love than mine/

It had been a year since he'd seen Quatre. A year of searching. And now…so close…his mind raced with all the possibilities for failure. The address could be wrong. There could be another Quatre Winner. Quatre may not even want to see him…Trowa clenched his jaw. He'd made it this far…

/Love, oh love, oh love

Still falls the rain (still falls the rain)

Love, oh love, oh love,

Still falls the night

Love, oh love, oh love

Be mine forever (be mine forever)

Love, oh love, oh love/

The sky was growing steadily darker, the streetlamps lighting and casting their sickly yellow light in circles on the sidewalk. It grew colder yet, the wind fiercer, the snow heavier, the moon a ghostly pale gleam among the dark snow clouds. The windows of the stately Victorian-style houses lining the street glowed cheerily, suggesting a warmth and safety just out of reach. Trowa pressed on.

/Let me be the only one

To keep you from the cold

Now the floor of Heaven's lain

With stars of brightest gold/

At last, Trowa halted, shivering, at the address scrawled on the tattered shred of paper. He clutched his coat around his thin, shaking frame, climbing the steps to the front door. The pain of the past year fresh in his mind, he pressed the doorbell. A few belltones sounded faintly from inside the house. The door opened a few seconds later. Quatre stood in the door, bathed in light from inside, eyes wide.

"Hello, Quatre…" Trowa choked, his voice uncharacteristically strangled.

/They shine for you, they shine for you

They burn for all to see

Come into these arms again

And set this spirit free./

Glistening tears sprang to Quatre's clear blue eyes.

"Please come inside, Trowa," he whispered, his words nearly lost on the wind. "You'll freeze out here…"

A great sense of peace finally came over Trowa, his heart at last soothed. He stepped inside, into the warmth, the door closing behind him.
