AN: Hello again! Another Mockingjay oneshot, but this one takes place inside one of the scenes. I hope it is recognizable which one, because I've kind of failed if it's not.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, it was not my brain which spawned the lovely creation that is the Hunger Games. If only it was, though...
When her lips meet with his, there is no warning. He has no time to read the intention in her eyes before they collide, and all rational thought is consumed by the confused mess of emotion that is caused by her proximity. His thoughts rage, senseless. There is a part of him that is shrieking itself hoarse, demanding that he killherkillherKILLHER, while contrasting memories crash against each other and fracture, leaving only a baffled array of feeling behind. He begins to shudder, to tremble beneath her, his body overcome with the warring sensations in his mind, but she does not react, except to force her mouth more firmly against his. She pulls away, finally, breathlessly, and her fingers slide in between his. Their hands are clasped clumsily, and they look like pilgrims joined in a desperate prayer.
"Don't let him take you from me."
It's almost an order, not quite a plea. He is aware of a very strong feeling of never never never, of desperation, of a snake-man and of stolen moments of warmth in a damp, cold somewhere, and finds himself gasping protest between ragged breaths.
"No. I don't want to…"
Her grip on his hands tightens until it's painful, but he doesn't care. The pain is a welcome distraction from his thoughts, which conflict and spin and fume in frenzied patterns that make no sense.
He watches her with eyes almost delirious, and she gazes back steadily, fearlessly.
"Stay with me."
Something bizarre happens when she utters those three words. He remembers things he hasn't thought about in what feels like an eternity, and his breath whooshes in and out of his lungs as if he's been saved from drowning. He sees peppermints in a paper bag, and a comfortable bed, and a girl almost in the clutches of sleep. Stay with me. All of the murderous and savage thoughts vanish in a jumble of harsh words and insults, and are replaced with a single word.
"Always."
Xx
