Short drabble-ish ficlet on Ai's character development in the Futakomori series, seen through the eyes of a foolish young fanficcer. Enjoy~!
I do not own Jigoku Shoujo.
[..]
It's disturbing, how easy it has become for humans to get hurt and wallow in self-pity. They are all sinking in their own filth, and they can't see it.
It's disturbing, how easy it has become for people to lay down their lives for someone else, sacrifice their immortal soul on Hell's altar.
Whatever the cause, she is always there to accept the offering.
Ai thinks she might need to rethink her concept of humanity. But the mere fact that they can be allowed to move on while she is here, ferrying soul after soul after soul into the very place she cannot enter – if she bothered to unleash her wrath, she'd drop dead, at that instant.
She's allowed herself to grow vulnerable, with those emotions she'd locked away thrashing in her ribcage, ratting against the bars of their cells. No wonder the Spider has been watching her.
She is running their maze now, but at least she is learning.
Thank you.
