The Captain's Love

"All right team, let's go, it's the first match of the season and we need to start off this year with a win!" He chuckled to himself as he thought of the speech that he had rehearsed for hours in the bathroom and he was so nervous then, now, it was just a natural thing. He had always felt at home on a broom, so it was natural that he was a great Quidditch player, but SHE had come and rocked his world, quite literally. When he had first met Jen, she had run right into him, then at try-outs, she had flown beautifully, until she crashed into him at the end. She had been the teams unanimous choice for Seeker, almost a given after seeing her fly. She had jumped so high after she received the news that she came down wrong on her ankle and twisted it, almost missing the first game of the season. Now, it was the last game, HIS last hooray. He smiled as she walked out of the dressing room in her red game robes on, her light brown hair standing out against the deep crimson.

She was flying great, but had yet to spot the Snitch, which concerned him a small bit, normally their matches didn't last this long, she was quick to find the Snitch and it kind of aggravated her team mates because they never got to play, but today was their day to shine. He looked over at the scoreboard that read 110-80 and saw the worry on her face when he looked up. He looked back down just in time to dodge the third Bludger that was sent his way that day. "Geez, I'm a freaking Keeper, and I can't keep the damn things away from me." He looked up and saved the tenth goal of the day, he would've had more, but the wind was playing tricks on his eyes and his old broom. He looked up at the sound of a gasp and watched in horror as the same Bludger that had narrowly missed his head rammed straight into the back of Jen's. He left the goals wide open as he rushed to her aid, not caring about the match anymore, he'd hear it from McGonagall later, but he didn't care, Jen had to be ok. He almost fell off his broom as the Slytherin Seeker rushed past him. He heard a satisfying crunch as the best beater Hogwarts had ever seen gave him just what his teammate had received moments before. He smiled as he saw a little golden orb in the air around Jen's quickly sinking broom. "Crap, she was WAY to high, but she'd kill me if I don't get that damned Snitch" and he went as fast as his old Cleansweep would go.

Jen woke up in the hospital a few hours later, asking instantly if they had won the match, but as soon as she asked she felt a faint flutter in her right hand. She looked down and saw a small golden orb and smiled, they had won, and they had won the Quidditch Cup yet again. As she looked up for him, she couldn't find him in the few faces that were around her bed. She knew he was there, she felt him, but it still bothered her that she couldn't find him. Sighing, she turned back and asked how she'd caught the Snitch, but her teammates wouldn't answer her, only looking over to a dark corner. Jen stared and thought she had seen a shadow move, but immediately dismissed it as a trick of the eyes. So the Captain sat in the shadows, leaning up against the wall staring not at his Seeker, but at the girl that he had fallen in love with. He smiled as he walked off, unnoticed, and looked down and chuckled as he tossed the rose out the window. The rose that was never delivered, but the rose that stayed in her heart forever. That rose was the spot of many romantic nights, and eventually, a part of that rose was moved to a lone meadow where two small headstones sat. They had two hands clasped together and the engraving said, "It all began with a single Rose".
