Empty
By the time they crossed the border into North Carolina, Caroline was staring unseeingly out the passenger side window, her eyes hauntingly empty.
Heavy
Elijah didn't envy Caroline in the slightest, becoming a vampire was a heavy burden to bear and it became even more so when it was not only unwanted, but also unwillingly and unknowingly forced upon someone.
Cross
Being trapped inside, unable to go out in the sun, and being separated from her friends was making Caroline unusually cranky and she couldn't figure out why Elijah was being so patient and taking the time to help her.
Delight
When she finally had a daylight ring, Caroline was beyond delighted, giggling happily as she spun in circles in the backyard and let the sun warm her skin.
Spiritual
Even as a human Elijah had never been particularly religious, but he imagined that watching Caroline dance around the backyard with pure, unadulterated joy on her face was the closest he would come to a spiritual experience.
Calendar
It didn't take Elijah long to figure out that Caroline functioned better when her life had order and she had a schedule, so he bought her a dayplanner and they sat down to work out a time table of how she would spend each day.
Healthy
In order to give Caroline a healthy outlet for her aggression and anger, Elijah added a late afternoon sparring session to her daily schedule.
Savvy
Elijah can't help but admire Caroline's savvy and the speed at which she adapts to her new lifestyle and the abilities that come with it.
Handful
There's no denying that Caroline is a handful, but Elijah finds himself enjoying her presence in his life.
Sparkle
The sparkle that lights Caroline's blue eyes when Elijah tells her she can go to the 60's decade dance brings a genuine smile to his lips.
