"The world has gone insane!" Dr. Jekyll shrieked just before Hyde once again was fighting for control. Henry doubled from the pain. He was shrouded in the darkness, his office was a disaster. There were papers strewn everywhere after the frustration when he couldn't modify the formula. Even shards of broken glass were lying on the ground just waiting for him to fall over in another bout of pain.

"What have I done? I unleashed an evil within myself that kills without a shred of conscience. I thought myself to be a man of morals, with only good intentions, and look what I have turned myself into! Edward Hyde!" Jekyll was speaking frantically to himself now, but the name of his other self was snarled with the deepest loathing.

"'I am pure, you are Hyde' he tells me! Well we're both locked away now, Hyde will never hurt another if I have to die myself to stop him." He was pacing now. He had locked them away from the world, told his servants by note not to admit anyone into the house. No one could be around him now, Hyde was able to take control at any time, and he was too unpredictable. Jekyll felt his days becoming numbered; Hyde wouldn't be a threat much longer. He couldn't survive without Jekyll… as far as they knew.

Suddenly, agony was cutting through Jekyll's head. Hyde wanted control and there was little blocking him out.

"Well, well, Henry. You certainly have made a mess of things in here. If you expect us to stay in here forever, you ought to bring a maid in." he snickered at the thought of another woman to take, he hadn't been out in what seemed like months.

"Damn you Hyde, do you really think I would subject anyone else to your wonderful presence?" Jekyll was still strong enough to gain back control for a short while, but he was getting a bit desperate.

"Oh, yes Henry, you'll learn."

"No… no you will…" Henry said solemnly, with resolve he began walking over towards the laboratory part of his office.

"What are you up to Henry? You know the formula can't be reversed, you've known that for a long time." Hyde cackled.

"You'll see, you'll never escape me. Isn't that what you told that poor Lucy?" Jekyll took a large container from the cabinet; he began pouring its contents over everything. All of his work, all of the chemical formulas…and finally over himself.

"No Jekyll! You wouldn't dare!" Hyde yelled at him realizing what Jekyll was trying to do to them both.

"Yes, I would Edward," he said as he lit a match with no hesitation…

Flames were engulfing the entire house now; all the servants had gotten a chance to escape them. A crowd gathered near the house, though far away enough to not be anywhere close to the fire. It seemed to be the consensus of the crowd that "poor Henry Jekyll" had gone insane and either in one of his fits had caused the fire by accident, or was trying to rid himself of his delusions.
