Questions and Answers (rewrite of the enclave)

Chapter 1

Rushing through the crowd trying to keep up with the banished, she calls out, but the woman walking with her head down towards the exit and into the tunnels doesn't hear her. Running now she gets past most of the guards and could almost feel the soft texture of her friend's hair but her caretaker pulls her back and holds on to her.

-No, no let me go, she didn't do anything wrong, let me go!

Fighting with her owner she tries to get away, but is over powered by the man. He drags her back to their room in the city's center and locks her in it, leaving her to collapse onto her bed in a storm of tears.

1 months later

She wakes up from yet another one of her nightmares filled with freaks and Diana. Her friend was sent into the dark underground tunnels outside the city to travel to the top. It was said that no one survived up there, because of the rain that was acid and the ball of fire that would melt the skin off your bones.

Sitting up she sees that her room had already been emptied. Today was it, the day that all the 16 olds dreaded, choosing day. It was when they were given a name and a job. You could be a breeder, who has children in a controlled way to keep the population stable, a builder, who builds anything from a house to an axe, they could also make medicine and so on, or a hunter, who goes outside of the city and hunts for meat, kills the freaks around the city walls and protects the citizens of the Enclave. She doesn't know what she'd like to be, she doesn't want to be anything. Number 14 wasn't strong enough to become a hunter nor smart enough to become a builder. She could be a breeder, but they were the weakest and depended on the hunters and builders for almost everything.

Still thinking about the choices she doesn't really have a choice too, she gets ready and puts on a dark grey shirt and pants, the normal uniform for the numbers. After quickly brushing her short curly black hair she heads to the meeting house where there's over 50 girls and boys her age. Taking a seat, they all wait for their number to be called forward. What seemed like hours later number 14 is called. Standing up slowly, she makes her way to the front of the round marble room and sits on the stool beside her.

-Number 14, would you please choose a name from the bag.

She dipped her hand into the small leather bag and pulled out a folded worn out white paper, unfolding it she reads out load.

-Mercy.

After slipping the paper into her shirt pocket, the man in front of her pulled out a long metal stick from a box by him, it was already red hot.

-hold out your arm

Doing as she was told she stretched her thin white arm out and right after, the namer pressed the stick against her skin. She screamed like the others but not as much she kept it in most of the time and only cried silent tears. One and two times the metal touched her arm. She was a builder

-Welcome Mercy the builder to the Enclave.

(I'm sorry if the chapter was short the next one will be longer)
